Not to be considered a `greatest hits', this fantastic 2 disc collection features original 12" remixes, b-sides, and alternative remixes of some of Camouflages biggest singles, and it spans more of their career than just their early `new wave synth pop' stuff, the stuff I'm really looking for, and the reason I hope they release a Archive 02 with some of the rare 12" versions of tracks such as Neighbors. The real treat for me on here is to find yet another 12" mix of The Great Commandment that I don't have on either vinyl or CD (in the liner notes, the band says the record company commissioned 17 remixes!), and of course the biggest treat of all is the "german band version" of "That Smiling Face," the b-side to the original US 12" version, which was the only mix on the single to truly retain the synth dance feel of the original mix. Oddly, the "William orbit dub" of "love is a shield" on here is NOT the same version I'm familiar with. The version on "Best of Camouflage: We Stroke the Flames" is 8 minutes long, and while it is called the William orbit dub, it is much more of a vocal mix. The mix on here, running 7 and a half minutes, is actually more of a dub. Overall, to really appreciate the ENTIRE collection, you'd have to be a diehard fan who followed the band through the changes in their style over the years. Otherwise, you'll just be getting a limited amount of tracks you really want. Track listing and times:
