By the time this album was released Abigor really needed no introduction. We also knew what to expect from them, essentially. I don't think anyone was holding out hope that they would be topping "Nachthymnen" anytime soon, but it is merely understood that they would offer up some fairly good Black Metal.

"Supreme Immortal Art" really is a continuation of the material presented on "Opus IV", and while this is a fairly good continuation, it does put me into a bit of a writing rut. There's nothing overly stand out about "Supreme Immortal Art", it's a very good album, but it doesn't stand out against the rest of the Abigor albums as being something different. Abigor is still using the same style of recording they have always used, the thinned out guitar tone and slightly poor production, but just enough so we know what's going on. There are also the touches of keyboards in various tracks to give us just enough of the medieval feel that most Abigor fans relish. Surprisingly there was a lot less acoustic elements on this album, and I would say that's the one major difference from the prior releases. "Supreme Immortal Art" is fast, yet melodic, with a touch of harshness that makes the band what they are.

The one major complaint I have about this release comes in the form of their booklet and the font they used. Seriously, I can't read anything on this. I realize you can't understand what the vocals are saying anyway, but I'm someone who does actually like seeing what the lyrics are about, this does not help. They are written in a greenish font color placed over a pale green background. The calligraphy used makes it literally impossible to read and to top it off the type size is miniscule. I'm wondering what the purpose of the booklet is at this point, they may as well have cut it down and just put the band photos and called it a day. Seriously, who thought green on green was a great notion? Either way, when you do track down a site that has the lyrics and read them, they're the usual Abigor style, some paganism, Satanism, and fantasy all kind of blended together.

Alright, I'm done ranting about font colors. I realize that's not what people came here to read, but seriously, I can't think of anything else to write. It's Abigor. We know what they play. They recorded in Tonstudio again, so it sounds just like all the other albums they put out. If you liked what they did before, chances are your going to enjoy what they're doing this time. I fall into this category and I enjoyed this album. So enjoy the Abigor that hasn't changed very much over the years.
