1.0 out of 5 stars A total disappointment, March 24, 2008
By Bob Allen (Michigan) - See all my reviews
Save your money and do not buy this product. I purchased this, against the other recommendations here, because I so wanted it to work well. Much to my (and my 7 year old daughter's) disappointment, this just doesn't work.

1. The dough dispenser does not properly dispense, resulting in tiny dots or giant wads of dough (following the recipe resulted in dough so thick, the machine could not even spit out a donut).
2. The wads of dough do not properly cook, resulting in uncooked blobs.
3. The oil level reduces so rapidly (being soaked up by the dough wads), you must continually add oil, resulting in having to wait for the oil to heat again, and in turn the dough cooking into the bottom of the dispenser.
4. The automatic donut flipper does not flip the donuts at all. You can try and flip by hand, but this defeats the purpose.
5. Working around all these things still resulted in terrible tasting donut blobs.

Overall, you are better off just using your deep fryer or going out.

1.0 out of 5 stars A good idea, but not implemented., February 27, 2008

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Received the Donut Maker... opened the box and unpacked the machine. Read the instruction manual and proceeded to wash the parts in warm soapy water as instructed. Problems: One of the 3 donut transport paddles was loose inside the machine. I was able to get it out with tongs and advance the plastic chain to the green link that it had to be installed in. I was able to reinstall the paddle. Next the drain tray fit very tight and was hard to remove. Lubricated the sides to get it to slide better. The unit rocked on the counter and had to shim under 1 leg to get it level and stable.

Over 2 days, made the first 2 recipes in the manual. First recipe used 2 cups flour and said about 18-20 doz mini donuts would ensue. Takes 2 to 3 hours to fry 1 batch of dough and you need to stay in attendance of the machine. It drops some donuts inside the machine instead of on the discharge chute. About 1 out of 3 donuts doesn't get flipped over no matter what the level of the frying oil is. Some donuts are very dark like overcooked and some are very light like undercooked. They are all greasy.. very greasy. Used peanut oil 1 batch and vegetable oil for the other. After the extra donuts set for a while, I threw them out. Tasted like an oil soaked sponge.

The performance of this unit is unacceptable. I would not recommend for anyone to purchase this machine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save Your Money, February 21, 2008
By Steven Knaus (Golden, Colorado United States) - See all my reviews

Please save your money with this item. I bought one through JCPenny ($99 and free ship)and it did not work on a GFCI outlet which is what kitchens have. Turning it on immediately tripped the GFCI breaker. I tried to contact the company, but no one ever called me back or emailed me. I returned it and tried another. This one does the same thing and also arrived with a broken door because they ship the basket loose and it caused the door to break. I am very disappointed by this item as it looks like a neat product but is just another poor made in China piece of junk... I have a feeling they will be getting a lot of these returned due to the item not working with a GFCI outlet. It did turn on when plugged into a non-GFCI outlet, this says there is something wrong with the unit. Also, check on YouTube for some videos on this thing. You can see the ones that do work, don't work very well. For the same price you can buy a great DVD set on Donut making from the web that shows you how to make all the good donuts like you see in the shops.
