5.0 out of 5 stars COBY WIRELESS FM TRANSMITTER, September 15, 2009
Model 738 which was not available enables one to select a silent frequency from the entire FM spectrum while model 737 offers only four frequencies between 88.1 and 88.7

3.0 out of 5 stars Great idea. Not as good as the cigarette lighter version., May 13, 2009
By Leo Kurt (Indianapolis, IN) - See all my reviews
I had high hopes for this one. I found the cigarette lighter Coby FM Transmitter did a great job for me, unfortunately, I shorted out two of them when trying to charge my phone through the transmitter jack. So, I thought i'd give the wireless a shot. Unfortunately, the strength is much weaker. You can only select 4 FM bands. None of them are in the prime 87 range. I typically have static on all four. Also, this thing runs out of juice fast, eating batteries alive. When the battery gets low, it inserts an annoying pulse of static in the signal. All in all, I'm disappointed.

I'm currently ordering a cigarette lighter transmitter to replace this one. I'll just avoid charging my phone through the transmitter this time...

5.0 out of 5 stars Blasts over static but burns batteries, March 26, 2009
I had been using a Belkin plug-in transmitter in my car but got tired of the static. I've been using this Coby unit at home for listening to audiobooks on my MP3 player with great results. In the house, I found that it transmits strongly about 15 feet, drops off quickly after that. The position of the short plug wire relative to the radio makes a difference, so I guess that's the antenna.

I decided to try it in my Camry, which has an antenna in the rear windshield. I really get a sense of the power of this thing in the car. When I turn it on, static turns to silence. Because my main need is to listen to audiobooks, frequency cutoffs are not important, and I can't report on them.

I like that I can go down to 87.7 FM, below the 88.0 limit of most FM stations. Great in a crowded urban environment. Three pre-tunes seems enough most of the time. I do live in the suburbs of Rochester, NY, so your own experience may vary.

The problem is battery life. This unit burns through a pair of AAAs in about six to eight hours, not a big problem if you remember to turn the unit off, of if you use rechargeable batteries. I would like to see an auto-shutoff feature.

If I could, I'd take maybe half a star away for the battery issue. But at this price, I can't imagine a better deal.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT PRODUCT, GREAT PRICE
can't go wrong with the combination of price and functionality. Audio will sound muffled when using any fm transmitter compared with a cd or direct USB connectivity. Read more
