Sprint Service
Sprint PCS Vision gives you instant access to amazing things you will really use, every day. You'll enjoy advanced wireless services, like web access, email and text messaging that is easy to learn and use anytime. Sprint Mobile Email enables access to email from popular providers simply by entering username and password with no downloads required. Plus, with the Nationwide Sprint PCS Network you get the nationwide coverage and voice clarity you've come to expect from Sprint.

Sprint offers a variety of messaging options beyond text including Voice SMS, which allows you to record a voice message and send it to any mobile phone, email address, or landline phone just like a text message, and Text to Landline, which allows Sprint subscribers to send a text message to a landline phone where it is automatically converted to a voice message.

Preloaded with Sprint Navigation, this phone provides full-feature GPS navigation including voice and on screen turn-by-turn driving directions and more than 10 million business listings.

And with the optional Wireless Backup service from Sprint, you can automatically store your phonebook contacts on the Sprint network, allowing them to be instantly updated in the event your phone is lost, stolen, or replaced. It also allows you to manage your phonebook contacts through a Sprint web page.

Phone Features
The Rumor offers one touch access to messaging through a softkey from the idle screen and it automatically populates the messaging menu when the slider is opened. You'll enjoy easy access to Sprint Mobile eMail to check and send mail from multiple accounts through familiar providers including Yahoo! AOL, Gmail and Microsoft Live. It also provides quick access to instant messaging services including AIM, MSN and Yahoo! as well as several popular social networking communities, including Facebook and Xanga. To personalize the text messaging experience, the Rumor offers the ability to assign "text tones" to address book entries for audible identification of text message senders.

The Rumor's face has a 176 x 220-pixel LCD (262K colors), five-way navigation toggle, soft keys, and numeric keypad, and it smoothly slides open to the left to reveal the QWERTY keyboard (which automatically switches the screen to landscape mode). The internal phonebook has a 500 contact capacity, each with space for five phone numbers, email and Web addresses, and a memo. You can also assign a photo ID to a contact entry, as well as assign it to a group as well as to a specific ringtone.

The 1.3-megapixel camera provides three resolution options (1280 x 960, 640 x 480, and 320 x 240 pixels), and features up to a 15x digital zoom, brightness and white balance controls, self-timer, and in-phone image enhancement. It also provides support for PictBridge technology so you can print your photos without the need of a PC (either using USB or Bluetooth). You can record video at two resolutions--176 x 144 and 128 x 96 pixels--at up to 2 hours for saving to memory card or in 10- or 20-second lengths for sending via messaging or email. Videos can be used as ringers and screen savers

Because the Rumor is Bluetooth enabled (version 2.0), wireless communication headsets can be configured with the phone for total hands-free operation. It also provides profiles for hands-free (v1.5), dial-up networking, object push, basic printing, file transfer, and phone book access. You can save up to 20 Bluetooth pairings.

Other features include:

  • Media player supports MP3, AAC, AAC+, M4A, MID, AMR, QCP, 3GPP, MP4, 3G2, 3GPP, M4V, and PMD formats
  • Speed dial (98 entries + 1 voicemail default)
  • Tools: Alarm clock, calculator, scheduler, notepad, world clock, EZ tip calculator, D-Day counter, unit converter

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Phone, but there's room for improvement, 3.5 stars, January 22, 2008
By L. Chan (pasadena, ca) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Pros:
-Uses Sprint Vision (Not Power vision - EV-DO) so I didn't need to change my plan. -but this may be a con for others-
-Qwerty key pad
-1.3 Mp camera
- Applications: Facebook, Aim, Instant messenger, Email, internet.
-Micro Sd slot so you can store more music and pictures
-Bluetooth
-size and weight is great and the raised buttons make it easier to dial.
-music player sounds pretty good

Cons:
*Some of my con's are quiet specific to things that I usually want/need in a phone, and didn't realized until after I had received the phone. Its still a good phone, but I would be happier if it had some improvements.

-Camera doesn't have a flash.
-Glitches in photo program. If you select pictures to save to your phone (either via online albums or pictures sent) it may save the photos you didn't want, or will just save the first photo 3 times, instead of the 3 different photos you selected.
-QWERTY key pad should have a button for the period, you need to "shift" then hit the period.
-The typing software can use some improvement, such as predicting words and such. The feature is there but lacks accuracy.
-Screen needs better resolution & colors. currently 176x220 pixel resolution.
-*Can't use own music (on SD card) as ringtones,
-*Difficult/can't use own pictures (from SD card) as the background/screen-saver.. I still can't figure it out.
-*Short cut navigation key for some reason the category "My content" doesn't let you make a shortcut for the sections within it. I want a shortcut key to Google maps, which is within 'my content', but it doesn't allow it, the best it will do is let you shortcut to 'my content' and then you have to scroll from there which is kinda annoying..
-*The idle/key lock screen is always the black screen with the time that you can't change.
-*There isn't a flashing light to tell you of a missed alert, until you click on a button and see the black/keylock screen. Else the phone just looks like its sleeping, so you have to consistently click on the buttons to see if you've missed any alerts.

Pictures you take with the phone look pretty well (granted you have the prefect lighting) on the computer, but everything on its low resolution screen makes photos seemed washed out and blurry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice, March 29, 2008
By J. Witt (Tennessee, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Over all this phone is very nice. I've had it for a while and I've certinly put it to the test. It's been dropped, thrown, and even submerged in water for about 2 seconds and it still works fine. One thing that has occured because of the daily ware is a really annoying creaking noise when I type. It's usually just w/ the numbers but it sometimes w/ the qwerty keyboard. I highly recomend it as a first or second phone for ages 12-25. The texting is awsome and there's no fuss of adding names and such to the T9w dictionary. If you don't usually text this phone is just like any other. But in the end I give it a 5 star rating.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Phone, February 27, 2008
By J. Walker "JDubs, M.S." (Saint Louis, MO United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is really a great phone. I have chubby fingers but the keyboard was easy to use. There is room for improvement, of course. At the moment there are not many applications you can use with this phone. For instance, games like Jewel Quest, Solitaire, etc. The only pack you can get is the Vision Pack. The browser could be better. Overall, I love the phone!!
