It is the site of Mount Moriah, where today the Dome of the Rock covers that place.
Part III: City of Peace
The hopes and dreams for peace for Jerusalem s inhabitants are examined in this program. In Hebrew, the name Jerusalem means city of peace , but Jerusalem has been a city of conflict and wars for thousands of years. The city founded by King David has become the focus of devotion, piety and symbolism for three religions, as well as the scene of conflict and confrontation. Few cities let alone holy cities have seen so many wars, so many conquests and so much bloodshed, as this so-called city of peace.
Mount Moriah is also known as the Temple Mount, or in the Islamic tradition, Haram es-Sharif. It is a place where historic claim and emotions run deep.
