Editorial Reviews

Amazon.ca

Bring Me Your Love is whisper-soft yet lush, with minimal production and warm acoustic instruments. Opening with the our-love-is-gonna-go-wrong song "Forgive Me," Dallas Green (Alexisonfire) aches his way through lyrics like "I’ve been known to fall in love/but sometimes love just is not enough/and my heart will stray." The lead track, a one-night-stand ode entitled "Confessions" has a similar lyrical pain, with a gorgeous lap steel guitar and quiet bluesy melody that would be a perfect fit for a mournful, soulful southern blues singer. The most catchy and compelling song on the disc may well be the most lyrically Morrissey-esque, a slightly uptempo, passionate number entitled, "Sleeping Sickness" where Green sings, "with all the worries that occupy the back of my mind, could it be, this misery will suffice?" That track gets even more powerful when Tragically Hip frontman Gord Downie adds co-vocals to the mix. All in all, this release is a sonic 180 degrees away from Green's screamo Alexisonfire creations, but remains, arguably, the stronger and more powerful of the two projects. --Denise Sheppard

4.0 out of 5 stars Dallas Green brings it again, April 13, 2008
Dallas Green brings so much to the table. His already amazing voice has only gotten better. It's also changed a little bit, it has a much folkier touch this record than the last, and it goes hand in hand with the songs. The added harmonica and banjo in a few songs could have gone so wrong, but come out so right.

To be honest, I only love about half the songs, both those 6 or 7 songs are worth the price of 6 or 7 albums. The other songs aren't terrible or even bad, they're simply not up to par with the rest. The melodies, feelings, and all around musical prowess Mr. Green delivers on this album are amazing.

Astoundingly catchy stuff for such melancholy (for the most part) music.
The beginning two songs and ending two songs are the only thing that brings this album down from a five.

Really great record, honest lyrics that convey depth and emotion, and brilliantly written music. His voice is beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Sublime., February 20, 2008
I stumbled across Dallas Green's (aka City and Colour) first album while in the midst of a separation that ended in divorce. The melancholy tone and simple beauty of the songs struck me and that album-- "Sometimes"-- quickly became part of my music rotation. After the bitterness of the divorce ended, I still found myself listening to that first album because it was good in its own right.

Now, having listened to Green's new album, I can safely say that this album will be in heavy rotation as well. Green has branched out from his previous album (which was mostly just him and his guitar) to include a backing band (or at least percussion in some cases) or backup vocalists in some of the songs-- and it works very well in way that is reminiscent of Iron and Wine. He also incorporates folk influences, such as a banjo, and makes them work very well.

I had previously heard the first two tracks on City and Colour's live album, and "Confessions" was very good. So good that when I heard this new album was going to be released I hoped a studio version would be included, and I wasn't let down.

I have to say, though, for me the standout track is "Body in a Box." This song is not only beautiful but thought-provoking as well.

With two amazing albums under his belt, I can only hope that Dallas Green will continue to do what he does so very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spellbinding, Relaxing, and overall, Amazing., May 15, 2008
If you want real laid back, mellow, great acoustic music, look no further than Dallas Green, AKA City and Colour. The Canadian folk-meets-alternative musician creates an entire album of mellow songs, and they're ALL amazing.

BEST TRACKS:
-Body in A Box
-Confessions
-Forgive Me
-Sleeping Sickness
-What Makes A Man

I am seeing him on May 28th at the Jubilee Auditorium. I have seen him live when he was in Alexisonfire, and that was an amazing show (If you're into punk, check out Alexisonfire, they rock as much as Dallas alone). Granted, this is gonna be an amazing concert.

If you're looking for something different, then buy this NOW!!! What are you waiting for?

4.0 out of 5 stars I really dig it...
I have always loved Dallas Green's voice, so I have no complaints here. His soft, feathery voice is soothing. The songs are a bit melancholy, but overall enjoyable.
