Treegator is a slow release watering system for newly planted trees. Treegator Jr. PRO slowly and evenly delivers a high volume of water (up to 14 gallons) directly to the root system of a newly planted tree or shrub with no run-off or evaporation. Experts agree - deep watering is the best way to reduce the effects of transplant and drought shock in new plantings. The problem is, that watering by hand with a hose or sprinkler - even on a frequent basis - is insufficient. That's because most of the water applied is lost due to run-off or evaporation, thus not allowing for the water to penetrate deep enough into the soil to properly saturate the root zone. Treegator is designed to properly water a newly planted tree or shrub by slowly and evenly providing deep water saturation directly to the root zone, with no run-off or evaporation - Every time. With Treegator, there's no guesswork. You'll water your trees and shrubs more efficiently and effectively than conventional watering methods and spend significantly less time and effort doing it. Treegator Jr. PRO is ideal for watering trees or shrubs up to 6-inch in caliper (trunk dia.) with branches beginning at least 6-inch from the ground or higher. When Treegator Jr. PRO is used with mulch, its shape and color make it almost invisible. Installation is easy and requires no tools – Just place Treegator Jr. PRO on level ground around the trunk of a new tree or shrub, fill it with water, and walk away. Unlike other watering systems, when you use a Treegator Bag, there are no trenches or holes to dig, and no stakes or spikes to drive into the ground. Treegator saves time, water and money. A 14 Gallon Treegator Jr. PRO continuously waters a newly planted tree or shrub for approximately 5 to 8 hours. This is such a great idea, and it works very well!

I fill this bag up once a week (it drains overnight and is usually low or empty the next day) and it waters slowly, so the water gets into the soil deep, rather than just running off (as it did when I tried to use a sprinkler to water the tree). It's easy to fill (just shove a hose in the red filler hole), and I have had no problems with the emitters (there are two of them on the underside) getting clogged or anything.

Within the first 10 days of using this bag, I noticed new growth on the tree (after two weeks of nothing since transplanting it), and it's been growing steadily ever since.

If you want a convenient, stress-free way to water a newly established tree, that will help it snap out of its newly-transplanted blues, this is a great solution. I'll probably keep using it until the tree is too big to fit inside the center ring (my tree's about 1.5" now, so it has a ways to go before it won't fit in the 4" aperture).

They sell similar things for tomato plants, and I'm seriously considering one now.

Treegator Jr. works exactly as I hoped & saves my sanity: No problem remembering to fill it once a week, it drips out slowly, keeping a young Witch Hazel moist enough to survive in a spot that has no other water source.

The product was much larger than expected, and turned out to be too large for our 2" caliper young trees. Both trees were planted with mounds, and are staked. The Treegator needs a 38" diameter flat circle in order to drain properly. That's larger than both the mulch pile and the distance between stakes, so we can't use this without major modifications. Which is a shame because I would really rather use this than a slow running hose.
