4.0 out of 5 stars Jamiroquai returns with his delicious new single., December 9, 2001
By Donna Pieters (London, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: You Give Me Something (Audio CD)
After his earlier releases such as 'Space Cowboy' and 'Cosmic Girl' which blew me away I was expecting a much better debut release from 'A Funk Odessey' than 'Little L' which was catchy but a little disappointing, so I was relieved when this single came after it. It has a catchy tune, and unlike 'Little L' Jay Kay goes back to his roots with the orchestra as well, instead of just him. Here is the tracklisting:

1.You Give Me Something - A catchy song with an irresistable tune, and a great instrumental piece in the middle. He uses special effects which sound very spacey and his normal style. There is nothing like the original. 5/5

2.Blacksmith RnB Remix - A slow, sexy version of the song with an RnB background that goes well with Jay's vocals. This is probably the closest and best after the original. 5/5

3.Full Intention Remix - After Full Intention's remix of J Lo's Play I expected something a bit better than this. Clocking in at just 3 minutes it is short and the only great bit is the build up in the middle. A bit run of the mill. 3/5

4.Cosmos deep space remix - A nice start to a remix beginning with drums and a falling feeling. It's kind of like the Deep Dish remix of Gabrielle's 'Rise' with its vocal toyings and blending beat. A very good remix using a simple beat which on its own would be quite boring. 4/5

5.King Unique saki session remix - This remix is similar to track 4, but yet different. It uses a chinese rift and breakdowns every so often to its advantage, again with the vocal toyings. Rather than abruptly ending, it drifts off slowly tailing. 4.5/5

Jay Kay has got back into my good books once again with this single as it is dancable, and yet jazzy and groovy in the typical Jamiroquai way. This song is not to missed, or in other words , :BUY BUY BUY!!!
