Product Description

From director Roland Emmerich (Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day) comes a sweeping odyssey into a mythical age of prophesies and gods, when spirits rule the land and mighty mammoths shake the earth. In a remote mountain tribe, the young hunter, D'Leh (Steven Strait), has found his heart's passion--the beautiful Evolet (Camilla Belle). When a band of mysterious warlords raid his village and kidnap Evolet, D'Leh is forced to lead a small group of hunters to pursue the warlords to the end of the world to save her. Driven by destiny, the unlikely band of warriors must battle saber-tooth tigers and prehistoric predators and, at their heroic journey's end, they uncover a Lost Civilization. Their ultimate fate lies in an empire beyond imagination, where great pyramids reach into the skies. Here they will take their stand against a powerful god who has brutally enslaved their people. Warner Bros. Pictures presents 10,000 BC, opening March 7 in theatres nationwide. The Decca soundtrack will be released on March 11 and features original music by Harald Kloser and Thomas Wander, composers of Day After Tomorrow.

4.0 out of 5 stars Despite parts sounding like a Media Venture score, it has great moments! , May 10, 2008
The 10,000 BC score has its down falls due to its mixture of sounding like a Media Ventures score. In some parts it sounds like the sound that you hear in a Hans Zimmer/Harry Gregson-Willimas/John Powell/Trevor Rabin/Mark Mancina score etc. Most of the score was composed by Harald Kloser and while I'm a big fan of his work particularly the Thirteenth Floor and AVP: Alien vs. Predator scores I'm a bit disappointed that he and/or his partner Thomas Wander chose this sound. However this doesn't necessarily make it a bad score. It is actually a very good score. It has a good love theme and exciting action pieces. Tracks five, eight, ten, eighteen and nineteen are quite action packed! There is very good choir present and unique tribal voices from several different cultures as well like in track three. There is an awesome epic piece that is track two. There is a great female voice in the beginning and the track becomes extraordinary! You can just picture the great pyramids of Egypt that was seen in the movie and the music was perfect for that scene! The only complaint that I have about this score is the Media Venture sound but other than that its a very good score and one of the best to arrive in 2008 thus far!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not awesome.......but certainly not awful either., May 4, 2008
The soundrack for 10,000 BC is not for everyone (but then, show me the soundtrack that is). It is much like Brian Tyler or Steve Jablonsky's work in that there is a great deal of complex percussion. There are also two beautiful themes: a melancholoy love theme, and a dramatic theme for what I assume would be wide vista shots. These themes are found primarily in tracks 4, 9, 14, 20, 21, and 22. My favourite is 22 by far, but I also love track 14 (sea of sand). There is also a good deal of 'ethnic' chanting.

Having never seen the movie, I am actually quite addicted to the tracks listed above. There is some similarity to King Arthur (Hans Zimmer) and there is this sweet 'David Bell Chord' in track 22 (but only a Trekkie would care about that). This is not my favourite CD but I've quickly developed a deep fondness for it. Some day, when I see the film I may appreciate more of it. This particular work caters to those who want themes and those who prefer a more atmospheric/percussive sound. I think it has the potential to impress many people.

11. Wounded hunter
20. You came for me
21. The End
22. 10,000 BC/End Credits
