3.0 out of 5 stars Starts strong, November 4, 2008
I somewhat agree with Zappa. When I first put this album in the first 3-4 songs kick butt. But other than that not much to speak for other than the ballads. I must say I am disappointed especially with the positve five star reviews it has been given.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great funk-rock, August 25, 2008
By Sam (L.A. CA) - See all my reviews
If you are a fan of Building the Machine you will love this. Very creative funk-rock-soul record. Hard cross genre to tackle well. He has his hard rock roots but is ever expanding and this is a very musical record. 10 out of 13 tracks are strong. I hardly buy any new music, if I do it's from an older artist and I am still selective. Of course this is an import. Glad to see a talented artist making new music. Some new ones should take some lessons.

3.0 out of 5 stars To me this is a letdown compared to the last several releases., May 29, 2008
By JP "ZappaFan" (Macon, GA) - See all my reviews
I have to say I was very disappointed by this album and don't understand the 5 star reviews, especially for nearly $30!! I personally think this is his worst effort since "Feel" (which explains Poustie's review since he loved that album). In fact, after several listens only 2 tracks really jump out at me - #1 "Crave" and #4 "Love Communion". At least "Feel" has 4-5 songs that I like.

So I guess that's the bottom line; if you prefer Glenn's flower-power hippie funk side and like the CD "Feel" (which I still think is superior to this) then by all means get F.U.N.K, you'll probably like it.

But if, like me, you prefer Glenn's rocking side stay away from this unless you are a hardcore fan. Then I'd say go ahead and buy it and make up your own mind because it's not like I'm never going to listen to it again or anything, I'm just saying I'm disappointed compared to the last several...heck everything he's released this millennium!!

And, if you do prefer his rock side I sincerely hope you already have "Soul Mover" which I think is simply one of the greatest albums he has ever released. I also like the CD he did with Toni Iommi, Fused, which was released the same year. So, for me, 2005 was a "banner" year for Glenn Hughes!
