Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Heineken, Van Gogh, Kraak & Smaak. The three most famous things to come out of Holland. Ever. In that order. Ok so maybe a bit of an exaggeration but the last three years have been an incredible ride for the band considered to be Hollands most credible export and as they gear up for the release of their second album things seem set to get even crazier. After touring the planet in support of their debut album and remixing all their peers and heroes, the time came for the band to start recording their second album. "The goodwill we got from our first album opened some doors for us" says Mark "We wanted to write with the people who are in the band as the core of the album but we also had met some people along the way who had got us excited and it was great that when we contacted them they wanted to work with us. Weve got a killer track with Ben Westbeech on vocals which is lined up as the first proper single from the new album and another that we wrote with Mark Brydon from Moloko as the second. Weve got vocal tracks with Rose and Ro in the bank and a killer track with rapper Dudley Perkins from Stones Throw who weve had respect for for a long time". "The new album is a bit more grown up than the first album" says Wim "Weve worked with some of our heroes and thats had an effect. We still want to write tracks that rock it on a dancefloor but weve also done an incredible cinematic track with Carmel who was a famous jazz singer in the 80s."

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay dance pop, March 11, 2009
This review is from: Plastic People (Audio CD)
I was impressed with Kraak & Smaak when I recently saw them on US TV - but their touring band and their recording band are not the same. The female singer who was so good on TV is not on the record at all. Instead we have the two guys singing in fairly routine hip-hop/dance groove style. It's not bad - but it's not what I wanted. To the marketplace with you! I hope a CD with the female singer will be recorded - that would be a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes Everything All Right, November 11, 2008
By ObiWanShinobi (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Plastic People (MP3 Download)
Truth time. The whole album is kind of "eh".

Not bad. But not exactly great either. So why did I give this album 5 stars? Two words:

1) Squeeze
2) Me

Here's what typically does it for me. I enjoy a song that has a definitive hip-hop structure, a good vibe, and is laced with funky beats. This song has all of that, with the addition of some of the best usage of horn-step breaks I've ever heard. That single song is worth buying the whole album.

The rest of the album is still OK. Again, it's not terrible it just gets lost because when you hear a jam like Squeeze Me... and every other track becomes superfluous.

If you do something right for yourself today - go ahead and get yourself some "Squeeze Me".
