4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent For Mac!, November 12, 2008
I've been using a 12" Powerbook G4 for about 3 months now and the one gripe I've had with it is the horrible Airport Wireless reception. I would be at a table next to a newer MacBook getting full reception, and I can't get anything. After doing research and some reception tests, I found that the aluminum of the laptop blocks much of the reception built in. As such, I went out looking for a wireless USB adapter to correct this. There aren't many that work with Mac, and even those that do are usually bulky and rather large. I saw this, and figured for $30 I could at least try it. It's fairly small, and seemed nicely designed.

When it arrived, I was instantly worried. The package is printed wrong and states that the internet connection function doesn't work with Mac, while their website (planex.net) says that it does (the website is correct, the internet connection works with Mac). Installing the software isn't the easiest thing to do, you not only need to download the software from their website (not the correct version on the CD), but the software isn't highly user friendly. Once you figure out what each menu function does, it's easy, but there's no help as to each function.

Once the software is installed, you just plug it in and the wireless manager automatically opens. It has an excellent array of wireless statistics to analyze what is available and each signals specifications. It also allows you to setup wireless 'profiles', which is the same as 'remembering' a network. It doesn't seem as fast as a MacBook Pro with built in wireless N, but it's definitely faster than the built in B/G wireless. The build quality is fairly high, and while it's all plastic, it feels fairly sturdy. The entire end is an orange status light, and the form factor is fairly unobtrusive considering it's a USB wireless device. The reception is amazingly improved over the built-in; I'm seeing networks I didn't even know were around me.

Overall, I would recommend this to Mac users who need better reception than older laptops provide. Most of the newer models have corrected this, but some MacBook Pros and most Powerbooks and earlier models made of metal can benefit in reception from this external device. The only other device I would consider is the Hawking HWUG1A Hawking Wireless G USB Network Adapter with external SMA jack, Apple Compatible - HWUG1A.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Product for Macbook, December 10, 2008
I bought this Mini2N USB and when I first bought it I thought I wasted my money, because it didn't work even though I installed the CD software. Well it turns out you need to download some software on their site at [...] Then from there since I have a Macbook I had to download the V 1.1.6.0 driver... I use to get signal w/ my computer only near my window, and even the signal sucked, now with this Mini2N USB I'm able to get signal at our dinner table. I feel like my computer is superior now, it's better than them other computers. Well I hope this was helpful...

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Great for Mac!, August 5, 2009
Technology can always be improved...works great but one time it grabbed a bad IP address or something and I had to unplug/replug it a few times. On the auto configure setting it grabs a random IP every time so usually it works but I'm sure manually configuring would make it flawless. I used it for a mac and it worked fine! 4.5/5 stars!
