Great single player, even better multiplayer, June 3, 2008
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Let me start by saying I didn't own the original Lost Planet before I bought this, I tried the demo on the 360 but didn't like the controls so I was holding out for the PC version to get a price cut on steam when this was announced and costs $10 less so of course I picked it up. So far I am really enjoying the campaign...the Akrid (giant bug) deaths remind me of the T-1000 shattering in Terminator 2 :) There are some pretty sweet weapons in Colonies, 10 more than the original LP so if you haven't already played through the original but are interested in it I say buy it if you can find it. As for the multiplayer the is a LOT of value in Colonies....but I honestly have to say unless you have or are going to purchase a Live Gold subscription (like me) don't make multiplayer your main reason for getting Colonies although I must say the cross-platform play is flawless for me so far. Keep in mind that you'll meed a fairly beefy PC to run it as well. To sum it up:
Campaign = great for first timers
Multiplayer = great if you have a LIVE Gold account
High PC requirements, I'm running XP with
Q6600 @ 2.7Ghz
4GB of 800Mhz DDR2 RAM (windows only sees 2.7GB)
Nvidia 8800GT 512
and I average around 50fps with most settings on high

3.0 out of 5 stars
Loving this game, June 24, 2008
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I already finished this game and the campaing mode is very fun and with tons of action and movie like scenes, the graphics are just crazy, in overall this game is what I was looking for, now here comes the bad thing, theres some kind of bug that blocks your achievements, you may finish the game, play houndred of online rounds or anything and you might no see them in your xbox live account, so for others players you havent done anything in the game, and the sad thing is you cant find any players for pc, if you want to play online you must play in xbox live thing and you have only a month for free so you can play with xbox 360 players, after that month what happen? EDIT: (Now you can play xbox live for free, At the time I wrote this review it wasn't free) Now im having fun playing this game with pc and xbox players. Now I can give 5 stars to this game. Oh I managed to fix the achievements bug, now everything is just fine.
now talking about my specs:
A not so fast Intel Core 2 Duo.
1GB ddr2 667mhz
nvidia geforce 8600gt xxx ddr3 256mb
creative audigy sound card
windows xp professional sp2
thats all... and I can play this game with almost all settings on high.

Frustrating, no attempt to port, May 21, 2009
Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
1 star seems harsh (i'm not sure if i've ever given a rating this low), and the game is adequately pretty, but there appears to be zero attempt to make this a PC game. All controls are the A or B buttons (you can use left and right mouse to simulate)? There's no option you can see to exit the main menu (you have to use the X-Box B key, mapped to right mouse button, just like the zoom and robot firing functions are)? There are separate screens for Options and PC Options? The speeder doesn't work on the PC because they only mapped the reverse key, not the one to go forward? (there might be a way to change the key mappings - it's hard to say since you can't do it while you're playing)
The monsters vary from easy and impossible. The basic monsters can actually be ignored - as a test, i refused to attack and just walked through a level of bug lobster monsters, no problem. The giant worm, however, simply eats you, 20 times in a row. A single enemy in a mech that gets to attack first (with an attack that stuns you, preventing you from attacking), can wipe out 1,000hp in one hit (you start with less than that) and can move, aim and fire faster than any human can (normally means they didn't bother to balance the AI). i've played enough FPSes that i know it's not me - while there are people who can beat this game, they're all far too studly to be normal human beings. i didn't get too far in the game (despite playing a couple of days, the same level over and over) but i can't bring myself to play it any more
