Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk
Feeder have long been the supply teacher of Brit-rock, the BBC DJ Scott Mills of pop-punk if you like--unremarkable yet undeniably able, and somehow proficient or lucky enough to exist beneath the radar, shrewdly outlasting most of their contemporaries. The single most memorable thing about their career is that they once rhymed "Devon" with "Lemon" in nonsensical disregard for lyrical cogency, but their 2006 singles collection contained 20 tracks (yes, TWENTY!), most of them instantly recognisable and entirely affable. None of us will live long enough to find out, but Feeder may well end up rivalling the cockroach in terms of covert resilience. And, as album number six, Silent Cry, true to form, neither furthers nor hampers their progress. That is to say, it's exactly as good as they’ve always been--whatever you consider that to be. You know the drill by now--comfortable runs of clean guitar, Grant Nicholas’ earnest blue-eyed vocals, add distortion, rinse, repeat, fade. That they manage to squeeze fresh juice from such a well-wrung fruit is credit to genuine songwriting flair. And though there are equally no real surprises, there are standouts that nudge their alignment just off-centre. Take "Tracing Lines" with its tight beats and itchy minimalism reminding of The Strokes (though also highlighting Nicholas’ comparative lack of charisma), "Miss You" which thunders along burning adrenaline like Foo Fighters at their most agile and closing track "Sonorous" with hurtling crescendos a la Muse. --James Berry

Product Description
2008 album from the Welsh melodic Rock band, their sixth album overall and first since Pushing the Senses in 2005. Silent Cry sees the band back with a bang, knocking out epic stadium filled Rock anthems, one of the many attributes that makes Feeder on of the UK's premier rock acts. 'Silent Cry' is the sixth album from Welsh indie-rock outfit Feeder. Recorded and produced by the band themselves, the album sees Grant Nicholas and Co. return to the sound that graced their early releases, a mix of heavy guitars and anthemic songwriting, while creating their most accomplished recording to date. The singles 'Miss You' and 'We Are The People' are included. 15 tracks. Echo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Feeder, April 6, 2009
This is a great collection of feeder songs. They all have individuality (they all sound different)and the songs have great lyrics and acoustics. My only issue is the price, 13 songs for basically 40$. My suggestion is you buy it through Amazon UK (www.amazon.co.uk)where you can get the collectors disk(Which has two more great songs) for only around 17dollars (USD, which i am including the shipping price, before any of you object and say that i didn't convert from pounds i did as i bought it from there). If you like what is one this then you should check out "The Singles" by Feeder, "Comfort in Sound" by Feeder and "Picture of Perfect Youth" by Feeder.

4.0 out of 5 stars New but not......., June 17, 2008
Feeder have always been one of my fave bands , and as an expat i wait with baited breath. Just bought this today in Japan , and i think i'm a little up and down . All of Grant and the gangs usual brilliance is here. Well thought out songs , great musicianship and diversity a plenty . However .....its a big however . Will it convert more to the cause ? I sadly doubt it . For long term fans like myself, and i am a huge fan , it continues a great tradition of albums .But for a newcomer it would be hard to see what the fuss is about . There's no real standout track as such ,or obvious "single" . That all said....i love it ....nice one guys , but maybe not enough to spend $30 on if you are looking for an introduction to a great British band .

3.0 out of 5 stars another victim of the "loudness" wars..., September 19, 2008
By mystic fred (prog heaven) - See all my reviews
Feeder have consistently produced some excellent albums over the years, though their last effort "Pushing the Senses" was routine. Here we have some considerably beefed-up and less washy songs from the band, all of a very good standard, but unfortunately their efforts have been spoiled by bad engineering and mastering.
This seems all too common these days, are studio engineers suffering from bad hearing, do they hear things differently to us? Many parts of this album sounds so compressed and over-eq'd it is hard work to listen to, it hurts, the main parts of the music just sound so mushed up. There is some relief in the quiet passages which seem just right, overall this is slightly less of a problem on the better quality vinyl version of this disc but the sound is still obviously poor. The engineers who subject us to this piercing mush effect on OUR records need one of us ordinary listeners to go in and tell them what they're doing wrong before they put the albums out, and they would possibly benefit from a visit to their GP!

Rating - Music 5/5
Sound Quality 2/5
