Debapriya Adhikary s singing is effortless, mature and brings great pleasure to the soul
Sitar Maestro Hidayat Khan (Son of late Sitar Maestro Ustad Vilayat Khan) --RRCD-7009 - C&P 2007-2008 RagaRanga®

Product Description
RagaRanga® is pleased to introduce its new CD release Silk - Debapriya Adhikary Vocal .

Debapriya is fast establishing himself as one of India s leading classical vocalists. Initiated into classical music by supportive parents, Debapriya received his first music lessons from his mother Anita Adhikary at the age of six. He later went on to take talim (training) from the Senia gharana vocal maestro Pandit Samaresh Chawdhury over a period of fifteen years. Debapriya has gained numerous accolades and plaudits on the way, honored with prestigious awards from All India Radio and ITC Sangeet Academy amongst others. With successful tours of UK and the US behind him, including a highly acclaimed performance at Pt. Jasraj Auditorium, NewYork.
The Music: Raga Bhimpalasi is a late afternoon raga with a distinctive serene and calm personality. The swaras (notes) are drawn from the kafi thaat (parent scale) which corresponds to the twenty second Carnatic melakarta, Kharaharapriya. The madhyam (fourth note in the scale) around which the raga revolves holds the key to the charm of this evocative raga. Before the main khayal we hear the introductory Alap, an un-metered, improvised and unaccompanied elaboration of the main phrases of the raga outlining its character. Raga Kedar is named after Lord Shiva, the destroyer or transformer in the Hindu trinity of Gods. The raga carries a strong devotional and romantic essence. Dadra is a light classical music form drawing on Raga Kaushik Dhwani in this case. In Dadra, the singer is given the freedom to take liberties with the raga structure to enhance the aesthetics of the song. The lyric expresses deep sorrow felt by a woman experiencing the pain of loneliness in the absence of her beloved. Notes: John Ball
