Product Description

Product Description

Spectracide Bag-A-Bug Japanese Beetle Trap is an insect attracting and trapping system that uses a dual lure to trap and kill both male and female Japanese beetles before they destroy your garden and trees. Use the Japanese beetle's own natural sex attractant together with a proven floral lure to attract from 2 to 5 times as many beetles as the commonly available floral lure alone. Trap is effective over a 5,000 square foot area. Employs the latest in controlled-release technology to approximate the female beetle's release rate, and provides a season-long supply of the most effective Japanese beetle lure system available. Natural: Controls destructive pests using the insect''''s own natural biology. Easy to use: Package includes easy-to-follow illustrated instructions for trap assembly, placement and disposal.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you have the time this is a good product purchase somewhere else, April 7, 2008
First thing to point out is that these traps work. In fact they work almost to well. Be prepared to purchase 2 and have to empty them at least once a day. With 2 traps that's 8,000 less beetles folks but you can jury rig the trap to use bigger bags.

That being said here are the caveats. Right up front, find another source to purchase them from. This seller wants $7.50 for shipping. Chew that for a minute. Completely over the top and uncalled for.

The second point is that because of the attractant power of the bags (not joking) you will end up drawing the varmints in from some distance. Some say miles away. For best performance get 2 and spread them out on your property. Keep the bags away from where you eat cause at peak season you will get swarms of the pests coming in rapidly and happily die in your traps.

But if you keep at it the Bag-a-Bug will capture 1 out of 10 bugs that land on it (sorry to hear about the figs!) and even the sight of these bugs to other Japanese Beetles draws more and more and more. You get the picture. The simple sight of one beetle to another screams "heh the sex is better over in this yard", literally and that is how they work.

Here is the good news. The more you trap the less eggs the females lay (normally 60 per season) and since Japanese beetles are cyclical over a 5 year period you can be a rest over time. But you have to keep at it.

I rate it 4 for two reasons. First the silly price and second because of the volume of work you have to do. Again remember they do work and if you like your vegetation as much as we do you might even find yourself buying more than 2. Try to look at it as a joyful gardener's vengeance and keep a cold one in your hand. It might not seem like quite as much work plus it is completely rewarding. Honest.

Good luck and remember Red Green, "if the women don't find you handsome they should at least find you handy".

Mike

5.0 out of 5 stars Works All Too Well, August 1, 2008
By Retired Railroader (Southern Illinois) - See all my reviews
Ordered this product after all the local stores were sold out. Received it two days later and have been trapping beetles every since. I go through roughly one bag a day per trap.(2)Be warned that you will need extra bags and the stench of the rotting bugs gets quite intense.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does it really work?, May 27, 2007
By Elaine "Mom to 3" (Farm in Kentucky) - See all my reviews
Absolutely! I have tried many different ways of ridding our ornamental trees of Japanese Beetles each year, and this is the best. Hang it up and forget about it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Does it really work?
Not at all! I followed the directions to the letter, but out of the 20+ beetles in my fig tree, not 1 has gone for the trap. Is the trap no match for a fig tree? Read more
