Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Craig Armstrong's evocative score for The Incredible Hulk tells a listener much about the bearing of the movie it accompanies. Even without seeing it on a screen, the music is indelibly marked with both the color of night, and the tumultuous inner life of the titular character, trapped in his unshakable reality. While there are plenty of passages suffused with the increased pulse rate of dynamic action, much of this double disc set is potently emotional. There are tensions and momentary resolutions; there are longings punctuated by islands of fleeting calm. Rich and dense, the strength of this music is that it never loses sight of the solitary man at its center. Indeed, it is as if it takes the massed numbers of an entire symphony to equal the presence of The Incredible Hulk. --David Greenberger

Product Description
From Marvel Music, the ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK to the smash-hit Super Hero blockbuster THE INCREDIBLE HULK!

Marvel Studios and Universal Pictures present the most incredible Super Hero movie of the summer: THE INCREDIBLE HULK. Hot on the heels of the highly successful IRON MAN, Marvel Studios tells the story of physicist Bruce Banner, a man on the run with a secret that could destroy us all, or be our only hope. When this mild-mannered man loses control, his rage unleashes the monstrous creature known to the world as the Hulk. But in his effort to cure himself of his condition, he has unwittingly delivered the key to his transformation into the hands of an enemy that wants to use it against him. Now, our only hope is for the Hulk to accept his monstrous fate and embrace his heroic destiny.

From director Louis Leterrier (THE TRANSPORTER) and starring Edward Norton (THE ILLUSIONIST), this pulse-pounding film is enhanced by a truly remarkable score from critically acclaimed composer Craig Armstrong. After gaining the attention of film-goers everywhere for his work on WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO + JULIET with internationally acclaimed director Baz Luhrmann, Armstrong re-teamed with Luhrmann on MOULIN ROUGE and was showered with awards including AFI's Composer of the Year, a Golden Globe for Best Original Score of the Year and a BAFTA for Achievement in Film Music. Mr. Armstrong also won a Grammy for his score in the Oscar-winning RAY. His film work also includes ELIZABETH: THE GOLDEN AGE, Oliver Stone's WORLD TRADE CENTER, and more. Mr. Armstrong has also worked with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Craig Armstrong recorded his first Classical record for EMI Classics France with the BBC Symphony Orchestra for a 2008 release, which includes a violin concerto for Clio Gould. Mr. Armstrong also teaches at the Royal Academy of Music London. He now brings his considerable talents to the newest release from Marvel Studios.

This moving score features the memorable music that accompanies the films eye-popping fights and its jaw-dropping climax. This score also contains a treasured piece from the Hulk's history: "The Lonely Man" theme as interpreted by Armstrong. Originally used in the popular television show, this song harkens back to the conflict and isolation felt by the film's central hero, a theme echoed throughout the Hulk's 40-year history.

A popular character in comic books, television and now film, The Incredible Hulk stands poised to smash his way into the box office this summer. As Marvel's Super Hero films continue to break movie-going records, this action thriller is poised to continue that trend, with stunning visual effects, powerful performances from its star-studded cast, and a sweeping score that will stay with you long after you see the film.

This is the official soundtrack to The Incredible Hulk. It is manufactured by Amazon.com, under license from Marvel Entertainment, using the original master recordings.

This product is manufactured on demand using CD-R recordable media. Amazon.com’s standard return policy will apply.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't stop listening to this!, July 3, 2008

Forget the format complaints. I too would have prefered a pressed CD. Big deal. I'm just glad that I have the 2 hours of this awesome music! Only Craig Armstrong can write frenetic and powerful music that is still so beautiful and listenable. Also check out "Elizabeth:The Golden Age"(my favorite score from 2007). This Hulk score is outrageously good. 5 stars!

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best film scores of the year, June 19, 2008
While it is true that this release is a CDR, those interested in the music and not the ingredients of the disc upon which it is burned or pressed will be very pleased with this soundtrack, which comes accompanied with a professionally printed tray label and booklet - and smashingly grand sound. Released by Marvel, it's as official a soundtrack as we're apt to get - and certainly as complete a one, with almost two hours of music (111.15 mins). How many other film scores get as much music made available coincidental with the film's release? Armstrong's main theme is terrific, with its repeated, pronounced X-strokes of violin, and his 3-note Hulk motif, itself a kind of swervy reflection of that main theme transposed to a sinewy violin figure wrapped in thick cords, entwining around and through the orchestra, embodying the growling tonality of the verdant beast's voice in those deep and substantial cello strains, echoed by a much higher reflective glinting of violins, all propelled by a driving pulse of strings and snarling horns. The score draws its relentless forward motion from these strokes of violins, driven by a recurring, low string ostinato. It's large and quick and powerful - an adroit embodiment of the green guy himself. Joe Harnell's poignant piano theme, "The Lonely Man," from the 1979 Incredible Hulk TV series, is nicely incorporated into the track "Bruce Goes Home." It's one of many affectionate nods to that influential show included in the new movie. The reawakened romance between Banner and Betty Ross (Liv Tyler) is characterized by a melancholy love theme, poignant strings and piano. I've found The Incredible Hulk to be a richly energetic and powerful orchestral score with effective electronic nuances built into its textures. Armstrong provides music that is both sensitive to the story's underlying drama and sustaining of the film's action set pieces. Hulk is melodically rich, provocatively vigorous, and thematically compelling, and is definitely one of the best scores of the year thus far.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Incredible Score, I mean Hulk Score, June 15, 2008
Ok, If you've seen this movie and you worship movie scores, then you most likely heard the music during the movie. It's spectacular and earns its place with some of the other fine film scores we've got this year so far(like Prince Caspian, Speed Racer, and Iron Man). The music is emotional(like Narnia 2), energetic(like IronMan), and intense(like Speed Racer). In fact, I'd even go so far as to say that the music to the Hulk is BETTER than Iron Man's score! The movie is also better than Iron Man, but that's besides the point. Themes are represented well, especially on the 2 Disc. If you really want to experience the Hulk and all his glory, then buy the 2 Disc, not the MP3 release with only a few songs. However, If you haven't picked up Speed Racer or Narnia: Prince Caspian, I would do that first. Also, the score to The Dark Knight is coming out in July, so look into that one, if you've heard Batman Begins and fell in love with it. In the end, the best movie score I've bought this year (so far) is The Rescuers Down Under. But give this one a try too, I think you'll enjoy it.
