Editorial Reviews

Product Description
(1941, Republic) Roy Rogers, Gabby Hayes, Sally Payne, Gale Storm, Bob Nolan and the Sons of the Pioneers. One of the better Roy Rogers movies. Roy helps some ranchers raise money to build a reservoir, only to have it gobbled up by a shyster in a phony stock scam. Roy's old pals, the Sons of the Pioneers, come to his aid. For the next several years, Nolan and his band were in all of Roy's films, but this was the first. 16mm.

This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Roy Rogers Series ... Red River Valley (1941) ... Republic Pictures", October 28, 2008
Republic Pictures presents "RED RIVER VALLEY" (12 December 1941) (53 mins/B&W) (Fully Restored/Dolby Digitally Remastered) --- Roy Rogers (born Leonard Slye) moved to California in 1930, at the age of 18 --- played in such musical groups as The Hollywood Hillbillies, Rocky Mountaineers, Texas Outlaws and his own group, the International Cowboys --- In 1934 he formed a group with Bob Nolan and Tim Spencer called "Sons of the Pioneers" --- While in that group he was known as Leonard Slye, then Dick Weston and finally Roy Rogers --- Their songs included "Cool Water" and "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" --- They first appeared in the western "Rhythm on the Range" (1936), starring Bing Crosby --- In 1937 Roy went solo and made his first starring film in 1938, "Under Western Stars" (1938) --- He made almost 100 films --- then came television, "The Roy Rogers Show" (1951) ran on CBS from October 1951 through September 1964.

Our story line and plot, To bring water to their valley, ranchers have raised money to build a dam --- When that money is stolen, Allison (Trevor Bardette) suggests the ranchers sell their stock to a friend of his thereby getting the money needed to complete the dam --- Roy (Roy Rogers) has a clue that Allison was involved in the robbery and is out to get control of the valley --- So Roy and the boys try to delay the sale of the stock while they look for proof against Allison --- Roy Rogers is a radio entertainer with The Sons of the Pioneers as his backup singers and band as was the case in real life --- Songs include the title song, "Love Begins at Sunset on the Trail," "Lily of the Hillbilly Valley," "When Payday Rolls Around," and "Chant of the Wanderer.", from our favorites Roy, Bon Nolan and Sons of the Pioneers --- "Red River Valley" might be the first film where Pat Brady has an important role. He's the bass fiddle player with the Sons of the Pioneers and he develops a secondary romance with Sally Payne who plays Gabby's daughter and the town telephone switchboard operator.
