This dvd offers an effective teacher response model to address disruptive student behavior in secondary classrooms. In part one, the four levels of intervention are presented and explained: planned ignoring, minimal intervention, offering choices, and following through. In the event students resist the promised consequences of the fourth level of intervention, following through, part two of the program provides effective responses and alternatives while stressing the importance of remaining consistent and firm in delivering the consequences. The two presenters are experienced teachers who include discussion, realistic vignettes, and teacher perspectives in this presentation, making it a practical and effective tool. Sections can be accessed individually, or the complete program can be viewed. An excellent professional development resource for teachers and administrators, and a valuable tool for university instructors to use with pre-service teachers. ----Linda Teel, East Carolina University, Greenville, NC --School Library Journal (12/01/2007)
Product Description
MORE TIME TO TEACH: Responding to Student Behavior (Secondary DVD) includes one forty-four minute DVD (closed captioned).
The average teacher loses 50 percent of his or her teaching time responding to time-wasting behaviors. Additionally, a recent study found that 40 percent of teachers cited student behavioral problems as a reason for leaving their profession.
MORE TIME TO TEACH: Responding to Student Behavior, a new video training program from ChildSense, teaches educators how to respond effectively to student behavior and dramatically increase their teaching time. "The teachers in our school using this four-step approach all experienced a decrease in time-wasting behaviors in their classrooms," said Dr. Mary Dybvig, principal in St. Paul, Minn. "They told me they went home happier because they actually had more time to teach."
This practical, easy-to-follow video program gives teachers a proven, four-step approach of effective responses, plus a section that deals with students resisting those interventions. The video features student and teacher dramatizations of real-life classroom situations. MORE TIME TO TEACH is an ideal tool for staff development and is designed for general and special education teachers, administrators, staff development coordinators and university instructors.
