We bought his lifejacket for our pug/beagle mix. She is within the weight requirements. The first thing that concerned me was the loop for attaching the leash. It was made of plastic. I was concerned that it may snap. I would feel much safer with a metal loop.
The jacket went on easily and was very simple to adjust. It has a combination of latches and velcro strips. The bright orange color and reflective patches make it very easy to keep an eye on the dog. The handle on top is very convienent for guiding a dog that is just getting used to water. It also helped us in getting the dog in and out of the water.
The jacket seems to to the job of keeping the dog floating. The floatation piece by the dog'shead is supposed to keep water out of its mouth.
After only two days of use, we noticed that the fabric was ripping where the leash conncected. We will be taking it back to the store in hopes of finding another model that is constructed a bit better. I would not recommend buying this jacket. I would not want to see the fabric rip and have a dog get away.

Over the weekend, my wife and I went to the lake with our Scottish Terrier. Since we were planning to do a lot of boating, we decided to purchase a life-jacket for her.

At first, in our home, we put the life-jacket on her and she stood without moving for several minutes. Despite our best efforts to engage her in playing she just stood still. We checked the jacket over to make sure that it was fitted properly, and it was. That being the case, we were a little worried that she may not be very comfortable in this jacket while on the boat. We were TOTALLY wrong.

On the boat, our dog quickly warmed up to the life-jacket. She was very excited to have the jacket put on after that. She did not fall in the water, or go swimming, so I cannot vouch for the bouyancy of the life-jacket, but it is incredibly cute and our puppy does not seem to mind having it on.

Pros:
Great design
Easy to put on
Bright colors to help locate your dog in an overboard situation.
Appears very comfortable


We didn't have the chance to see it function as PFD(puppy floatation device.) When we go swimming we will update this review.

I bought 2 one for each of my Rat Terriers, who weigh about 20 lbs. each. I took them on my double kayak and they loved it. I felt comfortable that if they fall in the Lake they would be safe. Sure enough my younger one jumped out of the kayak to investigate a floating bouy, and we just turned the boat around and I scooped him up by the top handle. It was so easy to get him back in the boat. My dogs had no problem wearing them, I think they actually knew they were safer.
The price was also great.
