1.0 out of 5 stars GROSSLY OVERPRICED ! !, September 6, 2010

This review is from: Moment-o-meter
After reading the lengthy report on the "Moment-O-Meter", I was curious as to just what $348.00 was actually buying. One may quickly determine it is a very crude , totally mechanical accelerometer. "Ball riding on a track triggering a green or red LED through two switches". This is absolutely the least expensive means of determining acceleration or deceleration. There are other solid state accelerometers NOT NEEDING LEVELING, for way less money. In addition, for less than half the price of the Moment-O-Meter one may purchase an actual MPG gauge which will connect to any post 1996 vehicle (and some earlier) and give a virtual plethora of information: trouble codes, (and clear set codes), speed, average speed, fuel rate, coolant temperature, distance to empty, engine RPM, maximum RPM, throttle position, manifold pressure, ignition timing (amount of retard) engine load, air intake temperature, coolant temperature, battery voltage, open or closed loop condition, MPG or liters / 100Km, $$$cost of trip, and more..
.
The gauge to which I refer is a ScanGauge II. (Also available on Amazon) I have two, one in my 9MPG motorhome and the other (currently) in my 32MPG 2006 Saturn. They are absolutely a marvel of engineering taking advantage of the existing on board data from the vehicle's ECM. A person may immediately view EXACTLY what ANY driving habit does to actual fuel usage and cost.
.
"Balls rolling in a (must be level) track?" Virtually the same information may be obtained by observing which pedal is being depressed. Gas pedal = red LED. Brake pedal or coast = green LED. (As the other party alluded in his entry) I could VERY EASILY draw up plans for an equivalent "Moment-O-Meter which could be built for less than $6.00; well, in a fancy case make that $11.00.
