Product Description

Product Description

The Linktropy Mini is a portable, low cost network simulator, designed to emulate basic WAN conditions to test the performance of applications in the lab. The Linktropy Mini emulates wide-area network bandwidth, delay, jitter, packet loss, and other link impairments at speeds of up to 100 Mbps. Its small size and light weight make it easy to carry, while its fanless design and solid-state storage offer silent operation and high reliability. An intuitive, browser-based interface makes installation and configuration of the Linktropy Mini quick and easy. A traffic monitor displays throughput graphs and statistics, making it simple to see the results. The Linktropy Mini is manufactured by Apposite Technologies, the leader in high-precision, easy-to-use network simulation products.

While it's possible to duplicate some of this item's functionality in knockoff hardware, this is a terrific product if you need to do even occasional WAN testing.

I have used it to give a real-world preview of how both voice and data networks respond to varying network conditions, and it's helped me make good decisions on what is practical or not.

The web interface is very simple. Not a whole pile of options, but enough to simulate various distance, congestion, and error conditions. The throughput graphs are easy to read and are accurate from what I have seen.

One feature I really like is the three network interfaces, allowing me to be certain that my management traffic is not being measured as part of the test traffic and therefore affecting the outcome.
