A pregnancy, career change, and the unraveling of a relationship are front and center on the fifth season of Girlfriends. The sitcom, which is executive-produced by Kelsey Grammer, takes a more serious approach this year. Yes, the jokes and physical comedy are all still here. While the friends have more than their share of issues to work out, Joan (Tracee Ellis Ross), Maya (Golden Brooks), Lynn (Persia White), and Toni (Jill Marie Jones) remain best friends. A former high-powered attorney, Joan finds herself navigating unchartered territory when she opens a trendy restaurant called the J Spot. Her good friend William (Reginald Hayes) has already made a financial investment in the business and now he's ready to give romance a shot. While the relationship is played somewhat for laughs, the actors inject poignant realism into their evolving roles. Clearly they're aware that should the romance fail, their platonic friendship could suffer. Meanwhile, Toni has mixed feelings about her estranged husband, Lynn becomes acquainted with her birth father, and Maya reinvents herself as a writer. Each of the four girlfriends have romantic entanglements, but Maya's is the trainwreck we can't stop rooting for. In a scene reminiscent of the Friends episode where Rachel plots to stop Ross from marrying Emily, Maya tries to figure out how to get her ex-boyfriend Darnell back. The guest stars this season range from musician Tricky (who toys with Lynn's fragile heart) to Reverend Al Sharpton (who helps jumpstart Maya's career as an author). Tricky is particularly good playing the bad boy that every woman should stay away from, but can't resist. All 22 episodes--which originally aired during the 2004-2005 television season--are included in this 3-disc set. With two seasons remaining before the series finale, Girlfriends has done a nice job of setting up the ladies' future. --Jae-Ha Kim

The lives and loves of four feisty African-American women, and their male friend, form the hit formula for this long-running sitcom. Joan (Ross) succeeds in her career as a lawyer, but she struggles to find that same success in love. Surrounding her is her independent assistant, Maya (Brooks); intelligent but flighty roommate, Lynn (White); and man-crazy friend, Toni (Jones). And while William (Reggie Hayes) spends a lot of his time with the girls, he still hasn't learned everything there is to know about women. This collection presents the fifth season of this irreverent and heartwarming comedy.

Girlfriends - The Fifth Season is definitely the best season of this funny and poignant show. The writing and acting drastically matured, Joan, Maya, Toni, and Lynn are smart, successful, and beautiful women who always go after what they want. This show is so under-rated, it's like Sex and the City. I am so happy each season has been coming out at steady pace, only three seasons left. I highly recommend this gem of a purchase, enjoy!

Girlfriends - The Fifth Season!! Its coming baby and I love the fact that CBS/Paramount is releasing them back to back regardless of sales, but Girlfriends know how to survive even when needing to cry on ones shoulder. Own your copy of Girlfriends October 28th! Just 3 more to go ;-)

Girlfriends the fifth season has got to be the best season for me so far. I have every season 1-5. Every episode on this DVD is funny, very moving and excellent. My girls Joan, Maya, Toni and Lynn is definitely great actresses and i cannot believe there is no more girlfriends. OH HELL NO.. I'm really disappointed with CW. However i'm still happy because i have 3 more seasons to collect. I recommend this DVD what am i saying i mean seasons 1-5 and buy seasons 6,7 and 8 when they get released. I 4 sure will be.
