It took my two fat cats a couple days to get used to it, but now that they have, it works great! It's the only way I serve dry food.
I followed the written instructions and started out with the holes on the large size. As they got the hang of it, I gradually decreased the size of the opening. Now they have to work to get their food. Plus my one cat can't binge (and then vomit) like she's prone to do.

The first time you try to open the balls, it's a little confusing (the instructions come inside the ball). Open the ball by turning the end that says multivet. (The thing along the center seam that looks like it might be a latch is actually a lock; once you adjust the ball to the appropriate size, slide the tab up to lock it into place).

We were looking for a different way to feed our cat because he was starting to demand being fed more often (though he didn't need to eat more) by pointedly showing us his foodbowl(s).

Initially he would keep going back to look for his feeding bowls, so we phased him into using the Slimcat, alternating between feeding by ball and by bowl. It took us two to three days to get him used to the idea of feeding himself. I had to sit with him and show him how tapping against the side of the ball meant food would drop from it. He's a smart kitten and picked it up after a few goes. To make it easier (and more fun) I attached a string by looping into the small holes on the cover - initially, so he would pay more attention to the feeder ball, but now, he uses it to tug the ball around to make it easier for him to get food from it. I'm finding that he has stopped gobbling down food, and now actually stops and takes breaks from eating before continuing later.

Apart from the initial confusion with the locking tab, the ball is well-constructed and works well even with kitten food. My only concern is that it doesn't air-dry readily enough between meals due to the double-layer construction, so I am considering getting a second one to allow us to alternate on a day-by-day basis.

My overweight cats have had fun playing with the feeder and I feel better giving them snacks in it because they have to work for the kibble. Good product!
