Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Locksley is a four-piece Rock'n'Roll band that was originally formed in Madison, Wisconsin in 2003, but is now based in Brooklyn. Their music is derivative of early British Invasion bands such as the Kinks, the Beatles, and the Hollies but differs significantly with Locksley's modern instrumental style. The band's name "Locksley" is named after the British village where Robin Hood supposedly originated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Its perfect..., November 11, 2008
By Alex Nennig "al27" (New London, WI) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a prefect pop album.

Its just great pop song after great pop song, all sounding like lost 60's classics.

Whats really amazing, though, is that Locksley manages to pull off a fantastic pop album without falling into ANY of the common trappings of modern music.

"Don't Make Me Wait" is not filled with hipster irony like the Strokes.

Its not detatched and insincere like Fountains of Wayne.

Its not incredibly derivative like Oasis.

Its not dull and lifeless and generic like much of Weezer.

It doesn't come off as processed or manufactured like the Click Five.

While it does adhere closely to the pop and rock of the 60's, its never nostalgic or cutesy.

Its a perfectly balanced, perfectly executed pop album.

I keep looking for flaws but there are none. Some might consider it a little on the short side, but most of the early Beatles LPs were even shorter. Every song has at least one great hook, none of which are so immediate that they become annoying. The album coheres as a whole, but the songs are individually different enough from each other so they don't all sound the same. You can trace obvious influences of other bands in the music, but none of the songs sound like rip offs.

And the whole thing just gets better and stronger with repeated listens.

Its everything a pop album should be. If Locksley had put this out in 1965, teenage girls would be screaming their heads off at every concert, just like they did for the Beatles.

Thats how good this album is.

Its quite possibly the best pop album I've ever heard. Seriously, I mean that. Its perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this CD!! NOW!!, September 22, 2008
For all you cynical music fans out there who hold the belief that I used to, that of; "new music today sucks"...then BUY THIS CD! I have been reborn with this CD...it has shown me that there are good ole rock n roll bands out there, even in 2008, who know how to rock, and come up with great songs. The kind of songs you heard on the radio when the Beatles, the Hollies, the Kinks, the Who....Badfinger, the Knack, the Ramones, Cheap Trick....remember great music??? Well, it's here folks! Locksley is aforce to be reckoned with!! Buy it today!!!! "D" in Mass.

Simply put, Locksley is a perfect example of modern Pop Rock and just how good it can be. If you're looking for one of the finest upbeat, feel-good albums of the year, look no further. This is one of the greatest gems to emerge in it's genre for a long, long time. This album is just hit after hit.
