Irresistable -- uh, mostly, September 8, 2004
This is a well-polished diamond in the rough. I was hearing it a lot on the radio in about '98 when I was living in my van in Detroit, and spending a lot of my time in blues nightclubs. This is blues, good blues, and from that strange breed of Americans that worship the blues. And it is a great record, especially "Katie Mae","White Lines","Flatfoot Sam" and others. I lost this cd in a move years ago, and the songs are in my head as real juke joint party music even now, hence I am buying it again. So any argument about whether Kortchmar and friends are "authentic" blues or not seems irrelevant in the face of that. Buy it, party, drink, goggle at sexy drunk women, and generally go down in style.
OK, it has been several weeks since I re-purchased this CD, and am now hearing again the songs that weren't coming back to haunt me all the time, as well as the ones that inspired me to get it again. So let it be known that there are a couple weak tunes in there as well. And in spite of "Elvis Slept Here" (just skip it) and maybe one or two others, I still would give it the same rating. Thanks, Amazon, for letting me add this caveat.

Sounds like blues to me..., October 27, 2008
This is a very juicy little C D. I've bought a couple of these and given it to friends. The song selection and singing is great! This version of "That Did It" beats the Bobby Blue Bland original in my opinion. Give it a try; the price is right!

Contemporary electronic not classic blues, March 27, 2009
This is NOT KWS, Robert Cray, Chris Whitley, or Howlin' Wolf, but it is one of my favorite records of the year. It is, to me, a mix of A3, some Little Feat, a little Gap Band and some Wall of Sound production. Other than guitar it sounds like the rest of the instruments are programmed but done very well. Danny Kortchmar is a legendary session player and has played on records for years. His programming is top notch and the lyrics are blues based but more contemporary and tongue in cheek. If you want cigar box guitar and a stomp box do not buy this record. If you want a fat, funky, contemporary fun record of a new type of blues give it a try.
