5.0 out of 5 stars Great unit for my Michigan basement!, July 11, 2008
I'm just a satisfied buyer, that's all. I bought this dehumidifier from another source because I NEEDED it immediately but I thought I would write a review for my favorite store ... Amazon.

My unit has is the FDL50S1 and has slots in the face instead. I'm sure it's the same spec's and quality as this model.

After full internet investigation I went out to visit the all the store's in a 20 mile radius of me to view some of the models. Wasting $25 worth of gas in my truck driving to every appliance store I could find, I bought this unit. It's has great clean appearance. I unpacked it, plugged it in, set it on low fan and within 3 hours the large bucket was almost half full of humidity from my basement. I plan on using the easy to get to hose adaptor for draining in the near future but for now, the bucket is great and easy to remove. The fan is strong but I can't hear the compressor. There is NO buzzing from the unit, just smooth quiet fan sound. It makes no more noise than a good floor fan. It's in my cold basement and is good to go in 41 degrees if needed. It's important to if you have airconditioning. The basement gets COLD in the summer. My opinion is, if it doesn't have a good fan, it won't circulate the air to remove the humidity. It draws air in from the front and out the side. This makes it easy to slide up along a wall out of the way. The digital controls are on top. The casters are large and it rolls smooth on my in door out door carpeting in the basement. The only thing it doesn't do is have an auto restart if the power goes out ... but I don't care. It's just not that important to me .... I can push a button if I loose power.

With my past experience, I rate this as a perfect and very smooth unit. I thought I would reward a great product ... there's so much junk out there, when I find a good one, I share my satisfaction.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very effective but not quite., August 4, 2008
By Eddie Luo (Whitestone, NY USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
After many hours of reading through Amazon reviews looking for the perfect dehumidifier, I realized that they are none. Most dehumidifiers out there are not made to last anymore. They tend to break in a year or one summer season from what reviewers posted. Some reviewers mentioned that warranty is useless because of the labor cost to replace the covered parts. I didn't want to spend $200 on a dehumidifier that lasts one season. I'm sure you don't either.

I ended up with the Frigidaire unit because of the lack of reviews (good or bad) and the 5 year compressor (1 year parts and labor) warranty. I have used it for two months now and it works well in drying up my basement. Hopefully it lasts.

Here are my Likes and Dislikes...
Good: Strong fan to circulate the air
Good: Wheels makes it easy to move the heavy unit
Good: Handle on top of the dehumidifier and on the top of the bucket
Good: Well priced. (Long Islanders - Qualify for the $10 LIPA rebate)
Bad: It is not quiet but for a basement unit I don't mind the noise

Other Note: Kill-A-Watt meter shows that uses around 600 watt of electricity with the compress on.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Very Well, May 4, 2009
First off, I have to question the 1-star review by N8N. The instruction manual addresses the major complaints in the first couple of pages. The reason the fan runs continuously for the first couple of days is because it runs in CO (continuous operation) mode until the humidity level is lowered in the room.

My unit is on day 2, and has so far sucked about 80 liters out of the air. I put it in my basement corner (with plenty of room on top and sides for airflow), and the fan runs continuously in order to lower the humidity level. After another day or two the fan will stop, at which point you can adjust how humid (or not) you want the room to be.

The unit is pretty attractive for what it is, and has a convenient handle on the top and nice rollers on the bottom. Even my wife commented on it, which is saying something. The tray is just a bit too snug to make emptying the reservoir an easy task (you have to work it a little), but this is my only nitpick. Better to have it tight than lose, which would facilitate spills.

Of the 2 settings for the fans, both are loud. :) The lower speed is quieter, but you wouldn't want to try to fall asleep with this thing in the room. It is best used in a basement or room that doesn't occupy the majority of your time. It's not jet plane loud, but it's not quiet (are any of these things actually "quiet"?).

Still, it does a really good job. My basement is noticeably drier in just the short time I've been running it. It's the rainy season right now (early May), and any damp / moisture smells that naturally occur this time of the year are absent. It does what it's supposed to do, which makes me happy. I'd recommend the unit to anyone who needs a basement dehumidifier.
