I bought this backup utility after seeing the dismal reviews for Norton "Ghost" here and having had a terrible experience with a previous version of Acronis "True Image" which failed to restore it's own verified archives on the same machine they were created on.
The install was easy and the program ran without any bugs. Offers lots of options and wizards if you don't want to deal with the options. Only 4 stars because I have not tried a full partition or disk restore yet.

Paragon Drive Backup is good software but I decided to stay with Acronis True Image Home. Paragon boots much faster than Acronis and it is also more compatible with Vista 64bit OS. You don't have to boot from the recovery disc in order to restore a drive image, which you must do in Acronis. Paragon will also back up an image of RAID (dynamic) discs, which Acronis will not do.
Paragon will only perform sector by sector images, which takes much longer than Acronis. You have a choice in Acronis whether or not to perform sector by sector imaging.
Both products perform equally except for the above mentioned points.

First: If you back up using the "sector copy" method to backup a whole partition, it is fast and accurate. Can do differentials using this method - also fast and accurate. Has compression features, which appear to work nicely. Can password protect your backups, but I never protect mine, since I need access to my backups and I do not want a forgotten pw to cause self immolation (using gasoline) to become a viable lifestyle alternative when I cannot restore from backups!!!!!!

Second: This is not an exaggeration: If you try to use "file by file" backup, you should allow 3-4 days for either the full or incrementals to run. And then, the backups will be useless. You will not be able to open the "file by file" backup to look at its contents or to restore from. By "useless", I mean: 100.0%, absolutely, positively USELESS and without any worth -- other than taking up valuable space on your backup media.

NOTE: I backup from 1TB hard drives to other 1TB hard drives. Sometimes the targets where I store backup images are internal SATA HD's, and sometimes they are external (eSATA) drives. I noticed no difference in performance between internal and external. My backups are compressed. I do not do "image" copies.


Misc: Has features for doing things with partitions, which I did not test. Did not test full disk restores - I assume that if I can view the list of files in a backup image, and if I can restore single files, then I should be able to restore everything. This may, of course, be incorrect! But I have faith.

Bottom line: better than Nova Stor and Acronis, both of which cannot handle today's massive HD's. Sector backup works so good, it makes the product worth the price. I hope they can speed up "file by file" in the next release. I won't mind if it runs 24 hours for 300GB worth of files, so long as the backup is usable at the end. But 3-4 days to generate an unusable backup is unacceptable.
