5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best books i've read, April 3, 2009
By Mike S (New Jersey) - See all my reviews
If you have a general interest in science and history but don't want to be bogged down in boring textbook-like prose, this is the book for you. Easily readable, Mr. Bryson makes what should be a very difficult subject quite comprehensible. Provides an amazing compendium of factual information. I think everyone in high school should be given this book to read. It makes science enjoyable and understandable.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is my favorite book by Bryson, August 27, 2009
I bought this book thinking it would be packed with Bryson's wit and humor. It's not. It is packed with one well-researched story after another that chronicle the history of science and discovery. I've read most of the popular non fiction works by Sagan, Greene, Hawking, Asimov, Ferris and others. Bryson tells it the best. This book has a permanent place in my short stack.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Brief History of all Things Science, January 31, 2010
If you want to educate yourself on the basic areas of science, this book is the one that will enable you to accomplish your goal. This book will take you from the vastness of space to the universe contained within an atom. The book goes into enough detail to lead to understanding, but is still written in a way that the average reader can understand. The author purposely writes in a way to keep the material easy to comprehend. Bill Bryson shows a great sense of humor with tongue in cheeks comments through out the book which made me laugh several times. This book was written to give us the understanding of science we might have missed in school due to the boring way in which the material is sometimes presented. I highly recommend this book for those of us life long learners that find learning new things enjoyable.
