4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent media server, June 30, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Purchased this unit without hard drives installed. Purchased two Western Digital (Green) 2TB drives and installed. Very easy to do, good instructions included if needed. I purchased this unit to use as a media server for video, music, and pictures. I use the 209+ to store some high definition video for play back also. The unit is fast enough to serve high definition video via wired home (gigabit) network. This NAS comes with a lot of other software to use as web server, print server . . I have not used. Price is now lower than when I purchased. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fast quality media server.

5.0 out of 5 stars Synology Rules, August 17, 2009
By K. Klein (Ligonier, PA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is the second Synology unit I've owned. I bought this unit to replace an older ds106e, which had the fan break and fry the hard-drive.

Why am I happy when the older equipment failed?

-First, because the older unit ran non-stop for 3+ years.

-Second, because their most recent firmware updates continue to be updated for the older unit.

-Third, because I contacted Synology to get a replacement fan, and they only charged 10 dollars for the fan and had it shipped within hours of first contact. I plan to replace the fan and hard-drive and sell the older unit on ebay.

-Last, the older units are going for 70% of the original purchase price on ebay, so they hold their value well.
