I bought a standard size and a large size direct from the factory as Amazon listed the large as "Unavailable."

Pros: All pieces fit, directions are easy to understand and follow, final production looks cool.

Cons: Pricing follows the 1960's outdated model (retail price = or > production cost X 4): HSPC included no extra screws and no spare washers (so be fastidious): pilot holes in the six upright posts need to be slightly dilated to accept the threaded steel connector rods and brace screws (not mentioned by HSPC): end product is more fragile than it looks.

If you are careful, you can increase the sturdiness by adding a dab of glue to the ends of the spacer posts as you are tightening them. But there should be a more elegant solution than that.

The price would be justified if it were factory assembled, but it is pretty steep for a DIY kit. If you are a dyed in the wool geek, and have the folding green, then buy these test platforms made in America by HighSpeedPC.

I ordered one of these about 3 years ago.

It works fine as a test setup that provides easy access to components.

The only issue I have is that because of the fact I am using it at a corporate building, it can only be used on a special ESD (eletro static discharge) approved work bench. Test bench has ionizers like the Simco aerostat, which cost $600 bucks a pop. Humidifiers are cheaper, but local rules require the ionizers, with the humidifier as a secondary ESD prevention device.

ESD has become a big issue over the past 2 years for several companies,large and small; also the gov..

If you have ever walked across a carpet (or simply walked in a very dry climate) and got a static "shock" when you touched a metal door knob, you have experienced ESD.

If you can "see" the spark, you have generated enough electicity to severely injure, and/or even disable a circuit board (like a video card,
motherboard, DIMM, etc).

Due to the requirements to use ESD prevention equipment, I use this
Top Desk Tech Station a lot less than I did a few years ago.

The concept of quick access is fine.

Just be sure to follow good ESD prevention to prevent damaging any motherboards, video cards, etc you have setup in this rig.
