Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Taped on August 20, 1973
Mr. Muggeridge is disinclined to be apocalyptic about America's future, although he has to concede that the current situation--with Watergate roiling away and the bitterness over Vietnam by no means assuaged--gives America-bashers grounds for Schadenfreude. Buckley: "It is widely assumed that there was a terrible collapse of English statecraft before the First World War and before the Second World War. Was there the equivalent gloating in America that you know of?" Muggeridge: "I wouldn't have said in America so much, but certainly on the Continent, and in my lifetime I've seen this attitude. When I was young, the Empire was at its maximum strength and I felt this incredible hatred that everybody had for the British. I think the only difference . . . is that the British rather liked that--it rather pleased them to be regarded as absolutely unspeakable wherever they went--whereas the Americans have no taste for it."

5.0 out of 5 stars Muggeridge Presents a Uniquely Original Perspective, October 19, 2009
The commentary in this discussion was so intricate I could literally watch it fifty times and not recognize all of the nuances, and implications involved. I watched it four or five times in a row, and distinguished distinctive features within the discussion each time that had prodigious implications to the conclusions reached by Mr. Muggeridge. The evolution of the thought process of Mr. Muggeridge is fascinating, because it follows no congruent ideological dogma, and seems to have originated purely from a strict adherence to objective reasoning (even the suggestion of subjectivity in his reasoning is sharply rebuked by Mr. Muggeridge).

The commentary in this discussion is distinctly exceptional, and more than worth the viewing time.
