Pointers may not exceed the accessible emission limits of CDRH Class IIIa or IEC1 Class 3R. Can battery-operated portable laser systems be sold in the U.S? 1.0 out of 5 stars Poor product worse customer support, September 2, 2009
The 1st 50mw laser I received failed right out of the box. Contacted HDE and they provided instructions to return pointer for replacement. Took them over two weeks to send replacement which malfunctioned. Pointer would flash on then fail. Contacted HDE about problem and they advised that I "warm up the pointer". I did discover that if I continusously turn it on and off eventually it will slowly begin to work. That is until I leave it idle for as little as a minute then the problem starts all over gain. As someone who makes his living conducting lectures and instruction to large audiences this is unacceptable. A co-worker who had bought the same pointer has had no such problems with his pointer. I passed that on to HDE at which point they made the decision to terminate all conversation with me. My final email to them was as follows:

"Since you have chosen to not respond to my last email I can only assume that you have decided to write me off as a customer. That is fine, I will just treat this as a lesson learned and accept that you and your company have no interest in your customers or providing quality products. Rest assured that I the future I will advise my friends and coworkers to avoid your business."

I have since thrown the pointer away.

2.0 out of 5 stars Hacked 5mW Laser?, March 27, 2009
I ordered two of these lasers. One is preety bright and the other fades after a couple of seconds. As far as I've researched, these may be 'hacked' 5mW lasers. You can find many videos on youtube on how to do that. Maybe that's why they're so cheap. They don't even have a brand to back up the product, its just "Laser Pointer". Some of the troubles that may result from using modded lasers are: beam fades after a few seconds, intensity may not be as advertised, some of them, being cheap as they are may not have an infrared filter which may be hazardous since safety glasses don't block IR light, only light at the green frequency.

For more information look over youtube for the infamous 'ebay lasers'. They appear to be exactly the same model, and they even show you how to convert a cheap 5mW into an ~50mW.

If you want a 'real' laser, you'll have to toss a few extra bucks.

2.0 out of 5 stars 50mw 532nm Astronomy Powerful Green Laser Pointer, May 16, 2009
I've been looking at the other reveiws on this page and some of them say that this laser is able to pop baloons and others say that it fades after a few seconds. The one i bought will not pop baloons or light matches and fades almost out of veiw within 7 or 8 seconds. It also drained 2 pairs of brand new batteries within about 1 minute. I'd like to hear off someone else who has bought this laser because my one really is'nt working very well
