Product Description

You’ve heard about Windows 7—maybe you’ve even seen it in actual—but what exactly is it? How is it different from any other Windows operating system before it, and should you upgrade your computer to it? These questions and more are answered in On the Go Reference’s Windows 7: The Unofficial Quick Reference.

This book provides an overview of Microsoft’s new operating system. It is not a how-to guide, rather it is an in depth overview of the software’s feature, and how it may affect the way you interact with your computer. It’s perfect for people on the go, or people who simply want to be informed about the software before deciding whether or not to upgrade.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light Read, February 13, 2009
This book did exactly what it promised....gave me an overview of Windows 7 in less than 30 minutes. Great for casual computer users.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Quick Read, February 12, 2009
By Gob (USA) - See all my reviews
I really didn't know anything about Windows 7 when I purchased the book; it was the only one available on Kindle at the time. It was a definitely a quick read, as the title suggest (my guess is it's about 2,000 or 3,000 words). I read the whole thing in less than 30 minutes, but I think that was the point.

It basically just tells you what's new and what's gone with the new version. It's not much more then what you'll likely find in a PC magazine, but since there's no computer magazine currently available on Kindle this is the best you'll get. I read a magazine article on Windows 7 after reading this, and I got more out of this, as the magazine article read more like a press release then overview.

At .80 cents, I'm happy with my purchase. I didn't plan on being an expert on Windows 7 from reading it...I just wanted to know what it was all about, and that's what I got from reading it.

1.0 out of 5 stars I Read The Entire Book While Waiting For My Bathtub to Fill, February 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Wow. Let me tell you how bad this book is. Actually it isn't any sort of book Let's just call it an outline of an article. I read the entire thing while waiting for the water in my tub to fill. A qualifier--I've hired technology how-to authors since 1994 and I presently work at Microsoft Press. If a proposal for this came across my desk I would have taken it right from my email in box and put it directly in to the recycle bin. Actually the proposals I usually get for computer how-to books are longer and contain more words than this. The first clue that this is just a quick farce to raise some quick cash--no author name on it. If you really want to learn about Windows 7, the microsoft web site has more information as does any article on ZDNet or CNet. This is an embarressment and I would hope Amazon would pull it.
