Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Full title: Still Dangerous: Live at Tower Theatre Philadelphia 1977. 2009 live archive release from the Irish rockers led by the late, great Phil Lynott. Still Dangerous marks another stellar live release from Lizzy with this one recorded live from the legendary Tower Theatre in Philadelphia. While Lizzy's Live And Dangerous, released in 1978, remains one of the greatest live albums of all time, it's no secret that there were substantial studio overdubs thus tarnishing that 'live` feel. Still Dangerous has absolutely no enhancements and is raw and uncompromising to say the least. 'Soldier Of Fortune' opens the proceedings, and while not firing out of the gates, it showcases Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham's trademark harmonies perfectly. Their hit 'The Boys Are Back In Town' was just about ready to break in the US back in 1977 and is appropriately aired in all its glory here. The guitars swirl over Phil Lynott's throbbing bass lines while the crowd lifts up the chorus. Still Dangerous is the real deal that further solidifies Thin Lizzy as one of the greatest live bands ever. 10 tracks. 2009. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars where are the other tracks ?, March 4, 2009
By Ian Gregson (Vancouver, BC) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
1977 was the year I saw the band for the first time, the Bad Rep tour. When I heard the full length version of these recordings I was just about transported back in time. The highlights were the songs that had not been released live before, specifically Soldier of Fortune and Johnny the latter being an amazing version.

What puzzles me the most about this whole recording is that to me it is on par with L & D, in fact some of the note playing is identical, makes me wonder if some parts of this show were lifted in to the L&D recording, especially with what we know about the overt over dubbing done.

This recording has more "energy" than L&D due to its lack of production.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 release from Thin Lizzy - We Miss Phil Lynott, March 3, 2009
This is a 4.5 star release from a 5-star band. This will please Lizzy fans for sure. I only wish Phil's bass was just a pinch louder in parts, and that the CD contained more than 11 tracks. Maybe that is all they played that night at the Tower Theatre, although surely by 1977, they were headlining (a year after "Jailbreak"), which would lead one to believe that more than 11 cuts were played by Phil and the boys that night.

The sound is pretty good, although you'll have to turn up your volume nob a bit on the stereo. This CD isn't overly compressed, which gives it an almost-analog vibe. I liked that. The cymbals don't hiss, but actually sound like real drum cymbals. Producer Glyn Johns (Faces, The Eagles, The Who) and Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham did a pretty good job remixing this release. Brian Robertson's guitar is down a bit in the mix, here and there, but it's never too distracting.
Fans should pick this up now. The fact that it doesn't contain any overdubs (the CD claims) is another plus. I only wish it was longer, songwise ... but it's worth the ten buckeroos ....

3.0 out of 5 stars Missing the rest of the show????, March 18, 2009
Yes, it is disapointing that the rest of the show is missing which is at least 7 songs. [...] has had the full 17 songs posted for listening for quite some time. I was aware of this show awhile ago and listened to it on Wolfgangs site and was excited to hear this was being released but sad to see when it came out how edited it is. I am a huge LIZZY fan and bummed about missing almost half the show.

It's great that they released this. Gorham and Robertson are spectacular as is Brian Downey. However, Phil Lynott's vocals sound strained and weak. Read more
