5.0 out of 5 stars Pilot Speeds best album yet. 5/5, May 17, 2009
I bought their album Into The West on a whim a few years back, and they had a number of really catchy songs, reguardless of the coldplay comparisons (Alright,Barley Listening,Ambulance)

While the influences are pretty obvious as other reviewers have pointed out (U2,Keane) I also hear some Muse/Radiohead in there as well.

It seems this time around they've taken on a bigger, more epic sound I'm hoping that some of these songs get on a television drama for some much needed exposure.

There are a few clunkers on the album, but its out-weighed by the epic songwriting and atmospheric u2-esque songs such as "Light You Up" "Bluff" "Ain't No Life" which all three could tie for best song on the album, and there's some other solid songs in there such as "Up On The Bridge" and "Midnight Fires"

I wish i could rate their first single "Please Put The Phone Down" higher but it just misses the mark (for me anyways) with it's repetitive lyrics, but i'm sure it'll grown on me in time.

So overall, even though Pilot Speed relys on some of their influences, they've showed AND shown great promise and are delivering, just hope more people take notice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wooden Bones, April 30, 2009
I've been listening to Pilot Speed ever since I heard "Pilate" on Pandora radio 4 years ago. It's been great following them as they churn out complete albums that you can listen to from start to finish. This is another of those albums.

There are only a few weak tracks on this album, but to say they are weak is only due to comparison to high standards set by the first four tracks: Put the Phone Down, Light You Up, Bluff, and Ain't No Life. If I had to choose, I would most likely have placed Bluff as my first radio single, but it turns out that Pilot Speed has already chosen Put the Phone Down in that spot. I like both, but I think Bluff's bridge and Clark's vocals separate it from a slightly repetative Put the Phone Down.

Pilot Speed's lyricist and frontman, Todd Clark, is one you shouldn't miss. His lyrics are always emotionally-charged (see the last minute of track #10, Wooden Bones) and like the first reviewer said, have constantly improved. The band tends to pull from a Keane or Coldplay vibe in their more piano-driven tunes, but Clark's voice quickly reminds you that you're listening to something a bit more raw.

If I had to recommend three tracks?
- #2 Light You Up
- #3 Bluff
- #10 Wooden Bones

I'm not big into dropping arbitrary numbers around, but I'd rate this in the A-range along with their other albums: "Into the West" (Released in Canada as "Sell Control for Life's Speed") and "Caught By the Window" (When the band was known as "Pilate").

5.0 out of 5 stars Breakthrough Album?, April 29, 2009
This is Pilot Speed's most original and polished album. The lyrics are also vastly superior to previous work.

The best songs are: Put the Phone Down, Light You Up, Bluff and Open Arms, Wooden Bones. I've found that I have been listening to "Bluff" a ton and the bridge in that song sends a chill down my spine.

The other songs are okay, but not particularly catchy. I find that I skip through them. They are melancholic and tend to drag a bit.

This album reminded me of U2's The Unforgettable Fire. If you liked that album, you'll like this album.

All in all, the music sounds like a mix between U2 and Jeff Buckley.

I'm have a picky music taste and I only hear 4-5 albums per year that I listen to over and over again. This is one of those albums. A pleasant surprise.
