Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Talk about a wild dune buggy. Here's the granddaddy of 'em all. It's Rommel's Rod, that Krazy Kommand Kar that prowled the sand of the deadly Sahara. More powerful than a Tiger Tank able to leap tall sand-dunes in a single bound, Rommel's Rod, had it been seen by the Allies, may well have turned the tide of the war. It's jam-packed with authentic, historical (?) detail and precision molded in authentic German Africa Korps colors. Two skeletons, the driver and commander Decals with World War II style military markings.

Product Description

Finally this great kit is back features 71 pieces molded in beige 9 inches long with waterslide decals. Two skeletons included driver and commander chrome parts and rubber tires. Decals with World War II style military markings, molded in beige and clear with chrome plated parts and black vinyl tires. A real gone "dune buggy" of WWII vintage designed by Tom Daniel. It's a half-track Kommand Kar that might have been used by the Desert Fox himself to prowl the lonely Sahara. Powered by a supercharged Mercedes engine, it sports a Mercedes front end a halftrack rear, swivel-mounted machine gun and the bleached skeletons of the Desert Fox and his driver. Skill level 2

5.0 out of 5 stars 'History's' coolest model kit, October 16, 2009

If you were a suburban boy in the '70's, other than rock & roll, you generally had 3 interests: custom cars, sick humor, and things that would make your parents squirm..this classic covered all three (assuming dad was a WW2 vet)! The re-issue is very well done; it matches the illustration, it's carefully molded and fitted with almost no flash, and additional details were added that weren't on the original. The instructions are well-written; the only exception being that they ask you to 'refer to the pictures' for decal placement, but the photos of all sides are not very clear. Of course it doesn't much matter, since historical accuracy doesn't really apply here. On that note, I found it somewhat disturbing that the swastika was included in the Afrika Korp 'palm tree' decal, although it's not shown on the corresponding location in the box illustration. Since this vehicle never existed, I'm wondering why Monogram felt it necessary to be that 'accurate' historically..but if you're skilled with the Xacto, just do what I did, and cut it out and replace it with scrap decals from other German WW2 kits, while retaining the image of the palm top. Overall, a great design, and a fun build! (by Patty's husband)
