Editorial Reviews

Product Description

With each track representing a different natural disaster, The Paper Chase leader John Congleton crafts this most startling account of humanity, exploring the existential crisis inherent within a universe seemingly fated to exterminate its population. Wringing the most sinister and destructive elements out of the natual world, Congleton creates characters frantically trying to survive elements far beyond their control. While the narrative voices obsess over the batteries in their smoke alarms, the dams along the river and their desperate prayers for health and prosperity, these songs expose the utter frailty of the human condition. Utilizing a newfound dynamic command with drummer Jason Garner making his recorded debut with the group, these songs are able to breathe--subtly building feelings of anticipation, yet erupting into violence and chaos as crisis becomes inevitable. The Paper Chase has matured but hasn't lightened up, leaving open spaces and allowing melodies to fully develop, the group presents its most powerful work to date. On Someday, The Paper Chase sounds even more unlike any other band in modern music.

5.0 out of 5 stars blown away, July 14, 2009
It's very easy to talk about Jon Congleton as a very exciting producer, or as a mastermind at reinventing the way guitar is played. What should not be eclipsed by those facts is that he's an amazing songwriter. Packed with beautiful dark anthems "Someday this Could All Be Yours (Vol 1)" gives us The Paper Chase's signature gritty yet polished and inventive rock sound. The songs on this record showcase PC's most pop accessible hooks, while not becoming dumbed down artistically in any sense. Want to get into the Paper Chase? Pop this cd in, hit random, and whichever track it lands on you've struck gold. Can't wait for Vol 2!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, September 15, 2009
This is my favorite album of 2009. I've decided that it is my favorite album by this band. Everything I'd wished for on passed albums, like slightly more cohesive songwriting, comes forth on this album. [...]
