The Entire Album Is a Highlight!, September 30, 2009
After a 10 year long career and several band member changes, The Autumn Offering has released Requiem. This is an album that, I feel, really defines this band, and very well might be the album that wins them many new fans! Right off the bat, I'll tell you that there is definitely a Machine Head feel to a lot of their songs, but yet they stand alone and definitely have their own unique sound.
Matt McCesney on vocals has a killer voice! The guy can scream, growl, and yet still able to sing with melody. To be honest, I'm pretty blown away by him as a vocalist after listening to Requiem in it's entirety! The band playing behind him is not to be outdone, either, and they fill their roles in this band perfectly. Literally, brilliant guitar work in every song. Killer riffs, and some head bobbing grooves! Not to mention extremely fast and typically upbeat drum beats.
Requiem opens right up with "The Curtain Hits The Cast" which starts right away with an upbeat sounding drum beat and a killer guitar riff! The guitar work throughout the entire song and entire album for that matter is nothing short of perfect! With solo's throughout each song, I could honestly put this cd in and listen straight through over and over again. There's also a growl at the beginning and then a melodic vocal portion later on in this first track that shows off Matt's vocal range.
I could literally talk about every song on this album. Every song is precisely written and put together. Each song has an excellent mix of screaming and singing, and even catchy enough at times to be able to sing along with. I really can't find anything that I didn't like about this album.
A few highlights, if I had to pick them, which frankly, would be pretty tough amongst the monster tracks on Requiem: "The Curtain Hits The Cast, "Fixed Like Medication," "Obsidian Halo," "Requiem," and "Smut Queen." Okay, so I basically listed half the songs on the album, because the entire album is a highlight!
The Autumn Offering's Requiem is an album I think every fan of metal should listen to, and I challenge you to tell me what you don't like about it. It is definitely a breath of fresh air in the metal scene, and am hoping this current lineup can stay together to keep putting out more albums with the same level of perfection.

This Will Blow Your Speakers!!, August 22, 2009
Requiem is an excellent release by The Autumm Offering. This release is heavier than the prevoius release. The vocals are brutal, generally heavier with less clean vocals,I think Matt McChesney is one of the best vocalists in metal and rock. The guitars are insane, high speed rhythm and lead guitars that don't stop, Tommy Church and Matt Johnson are one hell of guitarists. The drum work is some of the best I have heard recently. Some of the highlight tracks are The Curtain Hits the Cast, Venus Mourning, Worn Out Wings, and Obsidian Halo, (all tracks are great). There songs are catchy and I can not stop playing this CD. I agree with another reviewer that there could have been some tracks with more clean vocals. Great band to see live. One of the best releases of 2009.

Pretty brutal find a wall and pummel your head through it!, August 17, 2009
Dang I thought these guys on there last masterpeice would make you feel like you had to headbang until you neck stoped working. Nope on this album tao is back and angry at the world. The biggest differance between this album and the last one is the heavy factor. Reqruiem is a combonation of embrace the gutter and fear will cast no shadow combine, mixed with a little tlc of there own. The drums in this album are bone tingiling but the vocals arnt quite as sharp as before. I think they lost some melody on vocals here but at the same time opened up something else? These guys really like to change it up if you have liked there last album you will like this album as well. The only turn down In my opinion was I thought fear ablbum was more melodic on clean vocals and on requiem singing isi'nt as clean but still very good and dark. Some fun solos as well, and in the end this is a epic offering.......
