Editorial Reviews

Product Description

In “Game On, WiMax! Why the ‘New’ Clearwire gives WiMax its best chance at success in the U.S. marketplace,” Sidecut Reports takes an in-depth look at the $3.2 billion blockbuster agreement between Sprint, Clearwire, Google, Comcast, Intel and Time Warner Cable, and how it may change the landscape for broadband deployment in the U.S.

Updated in January, 2009, with coverage and analysis of the closing of the Clearwire-Sprint merger and of Clearwire’s WiMax market launches in Baltimore, Md., and Portland, Ore., our report examines the business case for WiMax services in the United States, and explains why lower deployment costs and a time-to-market advantage still give WiMax a window of opportunity, even in a down or depressed economy.

Prepared in an easy-to-read style with deep background material for those who may not have understood WiMax before, the 34-page report provides the most up-to-date look at the U.S. WiMax market available.

This segment of our report includes an in-depth explanation of how the "new" Clearwire came into being, as well as a short technical backgrounder on WiMax technology as well as a chronological timeline of important events in WiMax and Clearwire history.

5.0 out of 5 stars WiMax is Crucial - Paul can explain, May 24, 2009
Paul Kapustka is one of the most talented technology writers I have encountered in my 25 years of working in this industry. I have known him since the early 1990s and been consistently impressed with his thoughtfulness and commitment. This report is a great example of his work -- taking on an issue as important to the future of mobile as WiMax and making it accessible to all of us working in this industry is a hallmark of Paul's approach. For the past several years Paul has been dedicated to following the ins and outs of telecom public policy and commercial interests here in the US and this report is a must read for anyone engaged in this market.
