There is nothing new or disgusting about children learning to care for babies through pretend play. Playing with dolls is an important part of learning about family life, nurturing and caring. Give a child a doll and you will see all the normal aspects of their home lives come out in that pretend play. The babies cry, eat, poop, "need a nap"...everything they hear in day to day life. I've worked in preschools for years and seen countless children, boys and girls, put their baby dolls to their breasts when the "baby" is "hungry". In a household where they were breastfed and their younger siblings are being breastfed it is a natural and healthy role play response. THERE IS NOTHING SICK ABOUT IT!!
We KNOW breastfeeding is best for babies. We know kids role play their world. Why shouldn't kids role play breastfeeding??
Personally, I think all the new baby dolls who jump around, cry, pee and move when you walk past them in the isle are unnecessary, and a little creepy. A child's imagination does all that for the baby without needing batteries! But there is nothing especially obscene about the movements this doll makes. The babies with bottles make the same movements and sounds.
Every one needs to just calm down...
(The only mildly offensive thing about this doll is the price! But maybe that's just me.)

I think this is the best doll ever done!! My two daughters were able to play with it at their friends and as I explained then the importance of breastfeeding their babies, they decided they would throw away all the doll's bottles they had at home. Excellent... The human baby should be fed with human milk! why not let them learn that early in their lifes?

Our Bebe Gloton Breastfeeding Doll arrived practically overnight and is now a much loved member of our family! Our 4 year old daughter is still an occasional breastfeeder (nights and naps) and has never had a bottle so it was a joyous moment to be able to allow her to have her imagination fall in line with her reality.

The doll is well proportioned for little arms (if even a bit bulky but she'll grow into her)! The 'bra' that comes with it is easy to use (but I would have preferred a bit more width as she prefers to wear it over her shirt or sweater and it is really tight unless on her bare skin! I would say this is the ONLY reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars overall!)

Bottom line she has played more with her baby (which she calls Marite) nursling than she has with any of her other babies and often goes back to 'check on her' you know, "In case she's hungry."

The benefits of breastfeeding are indisputable. What a great way to encourage future mothers & fathers. Kids make pretend all the time in imitation of what they see & know, why should feeding a baby be restricted to just a bottle when that's not the only way babies are fed. Breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world & people seriously need to relax about this!

I think the negative reactions that some people have to this doll is a wake up call to our current distorted view on what is normal and what is not in regards to feeding an infant. The reaction of this seeming "creepy" to some people shows how far we still have to go in our culture to NORMALIZE breastfeeding. Formula companies have done an incredible job over the last century with marketing that artifical feeding through a bottle for an infant is the "normal" way to feed a baby.

I have no doubt that if you watched little girls who grew up before the introduction of artificial feeding that they would have pretended to feed their babies the only natural way that a human could: by breastfeeding. Before artifical feeding was marketed these parents would not have seen this as sexual or creepy, nor would they have thought "how weird". They simply would have watched their little girl and thought how cute she was being as she pretended to be a mommy. We are currently a culture that has been brainwashed to think that feeding a baby with a bottle is normal. It is not. It is the result of billions of dollars of advertising by formula companies.

This doll is a breath of fresh air. I look forward to the day (which I believe will come - though not in our lifetimes) when we look at an infant being artificially fed and we think "how weird".

Children already mimic their breastfeeding mothers, this doll just allows them to interact with their "baby" more. It installs the fundamental idea that breastfeeding is natural and beautiful. It allows future women to feel comfortable with doing what's healthiest for their babies. My young cousin loves it, and now she can copy her momma and really appreciate her toy. It will hopefully help future generations break the stigma that breastfeeding is something wrong or disgusting, it isn't. My cousin loves it, and it's a great doll!! I would recommend this to everyone.

My only problem is the price, but it's worth it, I've found the doll to be very durable and will probably last for other young family members to use in the future.

So your daughter wants a doll she can breastfeed. Interesting choice. I was raised in France where it was commonplace to nurse children out in the open, without covering. I always thought it was a part of life. My American husband and I came to America in 1985 with my one-year old son, who I was still nursing, and I could not believe how I was treated. It was horrible and I am sympathetic to others who have experienced the same treatment. You would have thought I was a criminal of the highest calliber. And I was only doing what is a normal part of life.

So remember, your offensiveness will be past onto your children, and that will be demonstrated in the way they accept or reject something that is foreign to them, albeit not-so-foreign to many parts of the world.

Since that time in 1985, I have become an advocate for breastfeeding. It is a fantastic experience for mother and child, and I am glad that America has come a long way in supporting it. But I can see the stigma is still there. No one should be intimidated into doing anything they don't feel comfortable doing, my only hope is that there is support for the women who are interested.

Myself, I was never interested in dolls as a child, and I am sure there are many girls who are not interested, but if my daughter wanted a breastfeeding doll, I wouldn't blink an eye. But more importantly, let's not be so judgmental, especially in activities that come second-nature to some women.
Thank you
