If you're looking at this, most likely you're looking to get into some good, trashy European (in this case, specifically Italian poliziotteschi) cinema of the 70's. This pack brings together 3 of these films in one cheap set, all directed by the brilliant Enzo G. Castellari. For detailed reviews of each film, please visit the individual title pages, as these are all available from Blue Underground if you are a little OCD and want them each in their own case (It's ok, I understand). All of these films have been remastered and presented in beautiful prints for the rarity of these films in the US, and all presented with their English dub. No Italian audio, sadly, but that isn't much of an issue if you're used to dubs.
As for the films, Street Law clearly shines as the best of the bunch. One of my personal favorites, the opening song "Goodbye My Friend" and the montage of mayhem on the streets of Italy opens into a great film of personal vengeance released in Italy just months before Charles Bronson's "Death Wish".
The Big Racket comes in a blazing second, about a motley crew of protection racket victims turned vigilantes, and Heroin Busters, the weakest of the three (but by no means a bad film), about (what else) busting heroin dealers.
All of the discs have some sort of interview or commentary from those who worked on the films, and this provides great insight to the tumultuous times Italy was undergoing during that decade.

If you liked these or are looking for more, I suggest you check out Blue Underground's other Eurocrime titles, along with Raro Video's poliziotteschi releases!

These three films are by the same director Enzo G. Castellari, but Blue Underground must know, once you've seen one of his films, you would not be likely to see others unless you were one of the "public" who helped greenlight this kind of excrement with producers. It began shortly before he made the "Street Law" film with Franco Nero from 1974 according to the short interview with Castellari and Nero on that film's individual disc. All three films have their own disc with a few extras and each of these have a commentary with the director. For his first film, the director had a difficult time getting a star and Nero's agent did not want to bother the star with what they had seen was inferior stuff, but Castellari went through a more subversive route and got Nero's hairdresser to convince the star to read the script. Well, the film was a hit with the public and began for Nero and Castellari a partnership which included many such films, that Nero says in the interview would all culminate with the same actors in the same empty and abandoned where-houses and if "Street Law" was any kind of sequel to the first, one can see it was made with a modicum of a more sense of artistic style owing to early seventies sensibilities than "The Big Racket" (1976) and "The Heroin Busters" (1977). You know, the same "s***." (I don't know if I'm allowed to say this word on amazon in a review). It is apparently aimed at a segment of the public that appreciates gratuitous violence, nudity and can't understand where the police are all the time while a vigilante gets revenge on those creeps we all curiously really understand their motives if we all let ourselves go, like Fabio Testi does at the end of "The Big Racket," perhaps the worst of these movies.Read more ›
