For the price, this is an OK collection, depending on what your taste in horror films of the 70's through the early 90's is like. 'Night of the Demon' is a rather strange choice to be on this alongside some of the other fare though, as it was a "Video Nasty" in the UK and features both the removal of some man's uh..manhood, and a large hairy beast apparently whipping someone with their own entrails. At the other end of the spectrum we have 'Shadow Play', with Dee Wallace Stone as a way-too-soft and vulnerable writer, whimpering her way through the entire film as she returns to the scene of a past tragedy. This film was pretty excruciating to get through, almost a "made for TV" sort of 'horror' flick. 'Hooker Cult Murders' (with Karen Black & Christopher Plummer) and 'Intimate Stranger' (with Debbie Harry) are both pretty good thrillers. 'Created To Kill' (AKA Embryo) with Rock Hudson isn't bad, but not a favorite, and 'Sister Sister' is OK as well, but nothing to get too excited about. This is worth having for a better print of 'Night of the Demon' and I believe this is the first time 'Intimate Stranger' has been on DVD. This is not a collection for the blu-ray or widescreen snobs, but for low-budget entertainment, it's a decent value.

This release contains 6 films on 2 single-sided discs, so three per disc.
That should have been a warning (even the low budget Mill Creek releases use double-sided discs for four films).

I won't go into detail about whether the films are good or bad. They are what they are, and may certainly appeal to lovers of the more obscure horror flicks from the Seventies and Eighties.

It's relevant to mention that 'Created to Kill' is actually 'Embryo' (Rock Hudson, Barbara Carrera), and that 'The Hooker Cult Murders' is better known as 'The Pyx' (Karen Black, Christopher Plummer). I was congratulating myself on spotting these, as these are seventies horror flicks that I really wanted to see.

I actually didn't get to see much, as Created to Kill turned out to be an n-th generation video copy. The Hooker Cult Murders turned out to be the same low-grade scratched version that one can view for free on Youtube. Yuck! I wish I had just bought the more expensive Scorpion release. I really don't have a 1000p fetish and have several other low-budget compilations but these are the poorest quality transfers I have seens since the days of VHS trading. The picture quality of Night of the Demon is almost as poor, and it sounds like it was recorded in someone's bathroom, with everybody gargling away.

On a slightly more positive note, both Intimate Stranger and Sister Sister are at least widescreen and in reasonable quality.

Sister Sister was directed by Bill Condon, who won an Oscar for his screenplay of 'Gods and Monsters', but is advertised here as the director 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn'. As if this set would appeal to teenage girls.... Jennifer Jason Leigh is both beautiful and creepy in this one. Wonderful actress.

So, if you're a fan of (one of) these two films, I could recommend this set.
Otherwise, avoid!

I bought it for Deborah Harry of Blondie's starring role in the murder thriller "Intimate Stranger". It is one of Debbie's best central character films. And as a bonus to fans, she performs two songs including a ballad cover of "Take Another Piece of my Heart".
I watched the other films, and they were acceptable.

I only bought this so I could finally have Intimate Stranger with Deborah Harry on DVD. I haven't looked at any of the other movies and I don't know if I ever will. But Intimate Stranger looks excellent! I couldn't be happier!

I have always loved 1992's Intimate Stranger but always just had a VHS copy. This is the first time it is available on DVD. It's a filthy hot mess starring Deborah Harry (of Blondie), who was pushing 50 at the time but looks and sounds great. She sings two Janis Joplin songs ("Piece of my heart" is worth the price of the collection itself). It has some very filthy language in it, which also makes it hliarous and campy. A guilty pleasure... or just a pleasure. I actually haven't watched the other movies yet.
