I once read a review of "Sorceress" that described the experience of watching it as "having a tent spike pounded through your soul." I have to say that's pretty accurate. I've loved this movie for 20 years and have worn out two VHS copies of it, showing it to friends as my example of the worst sword and sorcery movie ever made. From Pando the masturbating Goat Boy, one of the most appalling characters ever brought to the large screen, to the two enormous-breasted twin heroines who have implausibly been brought up to believe they're boys ("Women? What are...women?") to the inexplicably perm-ringleted barbarian Erlich, who looks like a refugee from a guest spot on Mork and Mindy... Not to mention the complete, 100% lack of a titular "sorceress" anywhere in the film... All these things combine to make Sorceress a joy to watch for those of us who live for Bad Movie Night. It's utterly tears-in-your-eyes hilarious. But if you're looking for a genuinely good S&S fantasy film, for god sake go buy Ladyhawke instead.

Sorceress is an Adventure / Fantasy movie directed by exploitation director Jack Hill and starring playboy playmate twins Lee Ann and Lynette Harris. The film revolves around an evil villian Sorcerer Traigon who needs to sacrifice his first born to gain unlimited power. He learns though he actually has twins and no one knows who is older. The children are saved and hidden by Erlick who has them raised by a friend as warrior fighters who do not know they are women. Eventually Traigon returns to find them and tries to complete the sacrifice. The ladies fight with the assistance of Valder (who acts like the father figure) and Pando (who eventually becomes romantic with one of the ladies). This movie is not well acted, the action sequences are poorly done and the fantasy characters and downright bad. With all that being said there still is something about the movie which makes you want to like it and keep watching. Lee Ann and Lynette Harris are not good actresses but are very attractive ladies with some very nice nude scenes. Recommended only for fans of cult B movies from the 70s and early 80s.

Really glad I bought this, I could barely remember the plot and it was far campier than I could remember (big plus in my book). The video quality isn't going to blow you away unless your only copy of this movie was an old VHS rental. I didn't notice any problems with the overall presentation other than one scene where the camera cuts away to the goat-man you can see some bubbling/deterioration from the old film-stock. Worth the purchase for an old B-movie classic like this.

These types of movies were pretty popular throughout the 80's along with Conan and the barbarian queen and deathstalker etc, Sorceress tells the tale of 2 twin sisters who were hidden as babies from an evil wizard, he wishes to slay the first born as a sacrifice, by good magic they are granted the skills of mighty warriors, they then grow up into beautiful women and go on a quest to kill the evil wizard, its certainly as cheesy as it sounds but its also brilliant too, these movies are long lost classics and so much fun, the effects are cool for the time, great make-up effects and costumes especially from the undead zombies, the soundtrack is great, listen out for the battle beyond the stars theme playing over the action, the cast is good fun especially the beautiful sisters played by Leigh and Lynette Harris who were popular playboy playmates, ample nudity from them!! If you love these old fantasy classics from the 80's certainly get this release as its great.

BLU-RAY has a great picture quality
Never before seen slightly extended version 83 minutes.
Special features 4 interviews with filmmakers including Roger Corman and a few old classic trailers from the 80's.

Having seen a handful of the cheapest sword & sorcery films produced in the mid- and late-80s, I was curious to see some of the bigger B-grade productions whose footage was so often stolen for smaller movies. “Sorceress” is one of these, though dare I say that this ambitious adventure is less fun than all other mace & magic schlock I’ve seen. Intriguing at times and not entirely without fun, this movie is nevertheless bad in uncomfortable ways and clearly bears the signs of a troubled production. Aficionados of crudeness will probably get their kicks, but I was far from thrilled.

The story: Two twins imbued with great magical power (Leigh and Lynette Harris, I, The Jury) are sought by an evil sorcerer (Roberto Ballesteros, Lagrimas de Cristal) as sacrifice to bring on a new world order.

As aforementioned, the film makes for uncomfortable viewing for a variety of reasons. Beginning with the basics, the acting is pretty bad from the start: not in a hammy way, but in a high school production kind of way, with the performers delivering every other line clumsily. The screenplay plays very loosely with violence, bringing about some relatively cruel deaths and plenty of violence towards women. A satyr sidekick played by David Millbern (The Slumber Party Massacre), costumed in a disconcerting half-mask and speaking entirely in bleats, wouldn’t look out-of-place in a Rob Zombie movie.
