A few continuity and logic flaws led this film to get a MST3K episode, but this is by no means the typical fare of such a show. Of all the Post- Apocalyptic knockoffs that came from Italy in the wake of the success of movies like The Warriors, Escape from New York and, of course, the Mad Max series. I believe most fans of Italian "cult" movies, whatever the kind might be, will tell you that of all of them, Castellari's are the best, and difficult it is to pick among so many good ones. What sets apart his movies from the rest of this "filone" is that he's in perfect command of cinematic language and rythm, where plot totally subsides to what's on display on images. There may be no point to be looking inside sewer pipes while being shot at from an helicopter, or there may be no sense in coming back with your helmet visor pulled up after someone hit you and broke it with a baseball bat, but, like in avant-garde movies such as "Un Chien Andelou," it's intriguing stuff to look at, and the director most likely realizes it, because it only helps the mad editing pace of the movie and the non stop, real looking, stunt action, inventive and very-quickly put together looking art direction and the overall artisanship and let's get it done no matter what action going on. Love it just as much as when I first saw it at a Mexican rundown move theater, of all places, in a double bill with "Siete en la Mira," a Mexican punk flick very up to the quality of this one which may never get this treatment. Nothing can beat unstoppable and merciless flame throwing squads riding car vending trucks! Feels to me like nothing like this will ever be made, even though these days Mad Max has regained some popularity. Too bad this trend was all too short!

1982's "1990: the Bronx Warriors," directed by Enzo G. Castellari, was just one of the many low budget Italian post-apocalyptic adventures to be made in the wake of John Carpenter's seminal "Escape from New York" (not to mention George Miller's first two "Mad Max" epics). It was a noted success and was naturally followed up but one year later by what I consider to be its even better sequel, "Escape from the Bronx" (1983).

The story here concerns a sinister corporation who send in "disinfestation squads," under the command of veteran American actor Henry Silva, to clear out the remaining inhabitants of the Bronx to make way for a proposed super city of the future. The Bronx in this film consists of dilapidated abandoned buildings occupied by urban dwellers who are burned alive at the hands of the squads' nifty flamethrowers. The gangs of the area, led by Trash (Mark Gregory), who reprises his role from the original and again has a heavy metal look that could have earned him an audition for Motorhead, fight against the corporation to retain control of their home.

What we have here is one intense, high energy action flick. The disinfestation squads wear cool black helmets and silver uniforms and find and incinerate Trash's parents, leading him on a quest for revenge. Castellari undoubtedly knows how to make movies like this, and provides non-stop explosions and machine gun duels, all of which are very well-staged, not to mention cool underground urban set pieces that are really neat to look at.

And one reason I'm admittedly such a fan of low budget Italian movies of this era is because they always provide a chance to view some really gorgeous Italian women who both look fine and often wield guns and/or swords to boot.

This is the sequel to 1990:The Bronx Warriors. The plot has to do with this guy ordering these people to clean out The Bronx and send them to homes in New Mexico. Needless to say,The Bronx's occupants aren't planning to leave. This film has many thrilling action sequences and is one of the best Italian exploitation films ever made. May I also suggest you check out Thunder Warrior,Thunder Warrior 2,and 1990:The Bronx Warriors.

This has to be the best action movie ever! Wall to wall explosions, shootouts, martial arts fighting, and a lot of pyrotechnics. Enzo G. Castellari also threw in a lot of his usual slow motion which makes the film quite stylish as well. Great musical score by the late Francesco De Masi fits in perfectly with some great scenes. Favorite scene - Romano Puppo smashes a baseball bat right through a disinfestor's helmet, captured in glittering slow motion of course. Be sure to check out other great Italian action titles, such as Endgame, The Last Hunter, Thunder Warrior, 1990: The Bronx Warriors, and After the Fall of New York. They're all great movies!

I saw this as a kid in 1983-84 in ny city. It was a hard film to forget, and now going back to see it, even though there are laughs, but this film has a charm to it thats hard to resist if you like films of this sort. It's a "so bad film, it's good" movie, complete with a crazy plot and goon characters that will allow you to just enjoy the entertainent value a film like this has.
I won't go into story, as it is also in the other reviews, this is a film, for folks who love italian rip offs and have that b quality to it, then this film will appeal to you.
