Prodyne's attractive cheese slicer and server tray features a handy recessed well for serving crackers or fruit along with sliced cheese. The high-tension stainless-steel cutting wire cuts through semisoft cheeses without sticking and harder cheeses without breaking. A natural finish on the beechwood board gives the server a sophisticated look appropriate for any occasion. The cutting wire is warranted by the manufacturer and can be replaced by mail. The wire is installed and riding in the groove of the board when the unit is boxed and shipped. Movement during shipping can bang the operating handle, which is connected to the installed wire. In my case, that caused the wire, which is restrained in the board's groove, to break (during shipping). I opened the box to find my new board in useless conditions, since the wire was broken and no spares are included. The wire should be shipped loose in the box and installed by the owner after opening. Spares should also be included. Ordering new wires from the manufacturer(I ordered 5)was simple, the wires were cheap and installation is easy. Still, the shipping/packaging people need to resolve the broken wire issue. Aside from that, the unit itself is pretty neat and receives a surprising number of compliments.

Since the reviews about broken wires were both written well over 1-2 years ago, I thought surely the problem had been corrected. Why would a company continue to sell a broken product? Well, apparently this company is perfectly fine doing just that! Like previous posters, the wire on my board arrived broken. There is no damage to the packing, so it is not a shipping issue. I ordered this product for a Superbowl party in a few days. Obviously I cannot use it. I haven't been able to find a number, just an address, so I can't even complain about it today. DO NOT ORDER THIS PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!

Amazon...wake up and quit allowing your customers to buy this item. It reflects poorly on you.

This item is brilliant in its simplicity. In today's litigious world, one really can't entertain without the Prodyne Beechwood CS/STwRCW. For years I have been nervous that one of my guests would hurt themselves with a knife while cutting a hunk of Jarlsburg or White Cheddar. The attached slicer takes away all of the worry. Thank you Prodyne!

P.S. The cheese slicer can also be used for olives and hard boiled eggs.
