5.0 out of 5 stars From a collaborator..., June 15, 1997
By A Customer

This is a valuable book for corporate managers who want to establish a company-wide intranet -- or make the one they have far more effective. While not skirting technical issues, neither is it a How-To reference, plenty of which already exist. Instead, it's more of a Why-Should-I-Bother manual.

In the introduction, author Randy Hinrichs states: "My bottom line is that intranets are about people empowerment, not technology. Almost all the intranet resources I reviewed were concerned with technical discussions. The core issues of knowledge creation, collaboration, communication, and information sharing are hardly ever mentioned."

That situation is nicely remedied by this volume's focus on the human factors that can make intranet technology a crucial resource for organizations -- or prevent it from working altogether.

Disclaimer: I am one of the people interviewed in the book and I love what Randy did with our many conversations.

Your mileage may therefore vary as to how objective I am in saying: buy it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Intranets are about people; so, January 22, 1998

in my opinion this is a very good book (and there are not many out there) which deals with the empowerment of people and the organisational aspects of intranets. Guess its one of the better works on this field.
