This book was recommended to me by a famous stock dog trainer. It explains the psychology of herd dogs and how to train them using their native instincts better than any other book. If you are serious about training herding dogs, this is a must read, timeless classic.

This is one of my all time favorite herding dog books. Great illustrations, several breeds and a wonderful tip of the hat to an exceptional dog-which realistically comes along maybe once in a lifetime.
This is not a "trial dog" book-but a working farm dog book.

This is a bit older book and some newer dog psychology is more effective than some of his ideas but a lot of this still applies and I think it is a good read for serious farm dog users.

This book was recommended to me by a breeder friend and I found it very valuable. The second half of the book contains a plethora of useful information about training dogs to work with livestock. In my opinion the first half of the book, which contains information about the type of dog that would make a good farm dog was less valuable. The focus seemed to be on border collies, and the descriptions of what to look for in a puppy were a bit esoteric for me. In my opinion it is best to find someone you trust to help you with picking the dog, then use this book as a backgrounder for learning to work with him/her.

Written from working person and dog experiences from a different culture. Made me consider how to do things to get the most out of the working relationship with a Border Collie. Our Border Collie works cattle, not sheep, but the concepts were helpful.
