For a new or experienced teacher this book is a must in your personal library. Not only does it cover the basics (senses, all about "me", community, family, pets) but it is a library of other resources available in most libraries. I highly recommend it to anyone working with young children in need of a little push with curriculum suggestions and ideas and resources you can buy or make or better yet have the children make.

I am so happy to see that this book is out in a second edition! My well-used copy is the 1974 edition which I used as a textbook in college, and has been used and taped back together many times. For my first ten years of teaching preschool, it was the only book I used in my planning, and it gave me a good starting point to develop further ideas on my own. It's funny to look back over the additional resources listed and find no references to websites or CDs!
But beyond the actual lesson and curriculum planning ideas, the introductory section of the book is an excellent guide for setting up a creative, flexible, rich learning environment for young children. There are no worksheets, no "cute" projects or commercially-tied activities; there are plenty (too many!)of resources for those elsewhere. This is a solid, common-sense approach to the joys of teaching young children. I wish every teacher would read--and use--this book!

This is a book I've used for years. I was happy to find it on Amazon.com. It arrived in good time and in good condition. It is a used book, so it shows a little wear on the corners but the pages were in great condition. Thanks for the great find.

I received my copy of this book very promptly, before the expected arrival date even. The book was in very good condition just as described- no markings inside, all pages present, and only two minor creases on the cover.

In terms of the book itself, it is a wonderful resource to have. Page after page is filled with good ideas for lessons, centers, songs, and materials. Additional information is given about each topic or theme in case the reader doesn't already have sufficient background knowledge on the topic, and there are spaces at the end of each unit/theme section to take notes. It's still overpriced as a new books, but well worth the few bucks I spent to get it used. Even though it is an old book, it is one that is well worth using today.
